On the old board there was a Whitesnake v Led Zep thread. Whitesnake were far more popular with Quo fans. I doubt that would have been the case with fans of other classic rock bands of the 70's.
Anybody remember Bad Ex? He was dismayed 😂
I think they are a great band but I rarely listen to them anymore. Plants vocals are overdone. I've found Plants solo career interesting and enjoyable.
For what it's worth I think they are a much better band than Whitesnake

I enjoy a bit of Zeppelin when I was young I listened much more.
When planning my funeral, Thankyou is one of my musical choices.
My Quo choice is A Year.

LZ sit waaay down my list (mostly cos of Percy's squealing and ridiculousness) - but I don't hate them or anything! [that position is reserved in perpetuity!]

A hugely influential band, Stairway is a stone cold classic, but probably listen to Whitesnake & Rainbow more.

I was interested in the early 90's. But I just barely listen or have any interest in the band now. Respect Robert Plant's ideal that he can only go forwards, not back to Stairway etc. I find anything after IV patchy with some great tracks.

Some great moments but massively, massively overrated. Some of Plant's hippy caterwauling is truly horrible.

It's funny because Led Zeppelin III was one of the first rock albums I ever listened to properly along with Deep Purple's In Rock and The James Gang Rides Again. I think I borrowed all three at the same time from a neighbour. I was only about 12 or something. Anyway, I loved that Led Zeppelin album and it was right at the beginning of my musical journey through life. For me, Zeppelin made four terrific albums but I always exclude the first two, which are considered classics, because I never thought much of them. III, IV, Houses of the Holy and Physical Graffiti I've always found very listenable, especially those first two. The band were hyped beyond belief in the 70's. In the music press they could do no wrong. Until punk and new wave that is. No one was safe from a panning after that Jeff Beck always accused the band, and Jimmy Page in particular, of stealing his work and releasing it as their first album. Summing up, top band for a while but never one of my absolute favourites. Although I'd take them over Whitesnake all day long. The competition in the 70's was Deep Purple. You tended to prefer one over the other. I was a Purple man personally.

When I was first getting into rock and metal I did check out Zeppelin, as obviously they were cited as an influence on many of the artists I liked. But they did nothing for me at all.
On the other hand I own the whole Whitesnake back catalogue.

Since learning to play guitar and being familiar with some of the old blues standards, you realise how much they, ahem, borrowed
Plant and page have been vocal in slagging off all the zep clone bands, but I don't see how they can complain about anything

I'm going for the play out of RAOTW and the sound of a football team, boots on the floor chatting and shouting as they go down the tunnel towards the pitch...slowly fading.
