Hmm, well said. I reckon FR has something of a kindred spirit in the Kremlin going by that! Neither of them tolerate a challenge🤣🤪

This is all in retrospect of course. After the Milton Keynes gig, I never gave it a second thought. The band were a mess internally but I never knew. No public forums for speculation and rumour in them days I only got an inkling when (wait for it) I was walking the dog after work in 1986 on the day of the gig and I went round the back of Edinburgh Playhouse - just in case - and I timed it perfectly. Andy, Rhino and Jeff were standing by the side of the bus. Rhino and Jeff were, of course, new to me. And Francis was, literally, being carried off by two roadies. Or I presume they were roadies as opposed to his carers Rick was nowhere to be seen but I presume he was still on the bus. In a similar state. I was delighted to see them back at Live Aid. It was quite emotional for Quo fans that. Then In The Army Now came out and I liked it. A lot. So the line-up and any comments about not touring again didn't bother me. There wasn't much in the media about any internal strife. So we all moved on. Well, some of us did Oh, and the dog was a cross Collie Alsatian called Chutney. I walked her all over Edinburgh. Even up Arthur's Seat. Great dug that 👍

Considering Francis and Rick rehearsed with Kenney Jones of The Small Faces as early as 1969, I think success papered over a lot of cracks.
It is on record (somewhere) that as far as Francis was concerned, Quo were done, he was out of the band.
I was speaking to someone on the inside on the EOTR tour, and he said they would be "back in a couple of years, when the money runs out", I am sure that would have been more of a problem for Rick but their lifestyles were unsustainable without the income.
As for blame, I think we all have had friendships and relationships that run their course, one party usually doesn't see it coming, sometimes someone will hold on for too long.
I am happy that I have so many great memories of gigs, of albums, as a soundtrack to much of my youth.
All line-ups have been enjoyable live, they were far too fast in the latter Jeff Rich days but it didn't seem like that at the gigs, and Matt improved the band immensely when he joined, but the band as they were from 71-76 are the greatest thing I've ever heard.
And I will miss Quo when they've gone.

Francis said that he knew inside, he didn't want to continue with Quo. But I guess he was too much of a coward to say as much. Both Francis and Rick had solo ambitions (or duo in the case of Francis and Bernie). As I understand it, Francis had been wanting to do a country album with Bob in the 70s already and was sort of dissuaded because the others felt it would take away the energy that would otherwise go to Quo. It makes sense to perhaps do something on your own when you've started to get enough of each other. Other bands have done that - the snag is that often enough, one member realizes they can do it alone and also feel they're undervalued by the other members (Steve Hackett, soon to be ex-Genesis) or one member writes four LPs worth of stuff, most of it destined for the band, while the others have put all their ideas into the solo ventures (Pink Floyd). In that sense, I can't help but think that the label did both Francis and Rick a bit dirty since their solo work did deserve a chance to be heard at least. I suppose the rather limited success of the two Rossi/Frost singles did say something about how Quo was the better vehicle for success...

I think they would have been released if Live Aid had not happened. After that the RC wanted a "Quo" product and nothing else.

Very philosophical, Mr P 👍 I've always been taken by surprise having been kicked into touch more often than something off Finn Russell's boot I always think I'm indispensable And whether anyone likes it or not, Francis actually is.

I heard histories of Francis being carried to the stage at the EOTR tour, and looking (and hearing) that he was in a bad state throught all the tour (I mean, drunk or whatever) via the Milton Keynes video or bootlegs from the tour, but for the Quo's back/ITAN tour, I thought he looked greater than the previous tour. Yes, he still snorted all the lines in a football stadium, but to me, he was in better shape. That story is new, but it makes sense.
