What a quarter final this is. Had an epic commute to work due to the Yorkshire Show Traffic , what better way to sit in a queue of cars listening to these two epic albums !
Worthy of a final itself , the free scoring Hello v the ultra consistent OTL.
I havent given it a score yet , still recovering from the last minute winner by WYW over Ma K.
Who will join Quo, Piledriver and WYW in the semis.
Team news : The boys in black drop Joanne from the starting line up.
OTL : line up in a weird 1 . 1. 2 formation and play Bye Bye Johnny as their closing track for the umpteenth time.
Enjoy

Cagey start to this match. Think everyone is still reeling from the last minute Ma K WYW result. Almost kicking off after the match.

This Epic battle will be shown live on the Vertigo Sports Channel. The Hello! album with a flat black 4 to try and out muscle On The Level with Rossi playing up front on his own with the Giant Lancaster playing at center half. As I'll be playing my original albums for this game, with the Hello album being awarded the 50th anniversary trophy 🏆 I suppose you could say this contest is a.... ¼ VINYL

Being that Hello! is the best album ever made, On The Level will have to settle for second best here. Even with two extra men. Outplayed in all areas with only I Saw The Light and Over And Done putting in enough effort to justify not being on the losing side. Get in there!

What an opening slalvo, straight from the whistle spud smacks the drum and we are off, ROLD v Little Lady.
All out attack from LL. There is no subtle interplay here , until Rossi tries a little solo break. Relentless from ROLD in response, its looking like a LL win, but no ROLD kicks back in. Its end to end stuff. The crowd are going wild!
I am going for a very ( very) tight win for ROLD due to the quiet bit and kick back . 1-0 to the boys in black.

It's an early start for this tie between 2 heavy weights, but Roll Over Lay Down keeping it tight at the back and Rossi going on one of his solo's, puts the Hello! album 1 up. Good chances from both albums during the first half but it's a slender lead as we come to a coffee break. The second side starts with a goal from the crowd favourite Caroline, I must say these 50 year old woman can still show the guys a thing or 2 with good performance from Claudie and the Blue Eyed Lady. There is not much in it during the second half but a strong last 10 minutes from 4500 Times and its Bye Bye Johnny and Bye Bye On The Level, even though the On The Level supporter's give their team a chorus of You Never Rock Alone.

Roll Over Lay Down v Little Lady / Most Of The Time = 1-0
Even On The Level’s opening 1-2 can’t overwhelm the epic that was destined to become a top ten hit in it’s Live form.
Claudie ; A Reason For Living v I Saw The Light ; Over And Done = 1-1
A rather lack lustre, imo, pairing from Hello! Are completely outclassed.
Blue Eyed Lady v Nightride = 2-1
A powerful number we finally heard live on the Reunion tours – it was worth the wait!
Caroline v Down Down = 2-2
Almost impossible to separate: classic hits, distinctive openings. Down Down edges it on the fade out.
Softer Ride ; And It’s Better Now v Broken Man ; What To Do ; Where I Am = 2-3
Softer Ride should have been on Piledriver, imo. It’s rather fighting a lone battle here & the extra man swings it.
Forty Five Hundred Times v Bye Bye Johnny = 3-3
No matter how spirited a rendition, no cover would beat, arguably, the Quo epic.
It’s another draw for me!
If pushed, I’d say the dreary Joanne clinches it versus the “hidden” YAWN

We rejoin at 1-0 to the boys in black and despite that blistering opening attack , the OTL mid field are really starting to dominate. Claudie and A reason for Living getting totally outclassed by some classic Quo at their best. I Saw The Light been the eye catcher with some neat guitar trickery from Over and Done . 1-1
Closing the half we have BEL v Nightride.
Difficult one for me to call, as not a lot in it . In a contraversial play I cannot split them . So half time I have it 1-1 with all to play for second half.

How can an album with Over and Done, Down Down and Most Of The Time possibly lose?
When it's faced with Blue Eyed Lady, Softer Ride, Roll Over Lay Down and 4500 Times, that's how!

Second half kicks off with Caroline bursting into action, the crowd are on their feet. Broken Man responds with a Lancaster classic. Its another really tight one and pivotal in the battle as the boys in black surely have a tap in to close the album.
I have gone for Caroline , just because....2-1

Difficult to judge as it’s an 8 track v 10. So I’ve judged it simply on weak songs per album. Hello doesn’t have any where as Broken Man & BBJ are skips for me. But ‘I saw the light’ doesn’t deserve to be on the losing side. What a tough call but it’s ‘ Hello ‘ for me.

I have gone for Caroline , just because....2-1 Ref has ruled that off side as its Caroline v Down Down doh ! And with that Down Down smatches one back for OTL. Alans brilliant closing bass lines snatching victory over the classic Caroline 2-1 to OTL
