.... still have to go back to the Wembley or Madrid footage to show people what Quo were really about. Then again, maybe they should have donned black and white face make-up and wore a lot more glitter. Maybe even higher platforms. Seemed to do the trick elsewhere Quo at their worst were as never as bad as that. Geoff Barton of Sounds used to bang on about them all the time, I even went to see them. But, just no.

Geoff Barton once gave Just Supposin' a one-star review in "Sounds" which lasted about half a dozen lines. He gave Kiss Alive 5 stars a few years before. It remains the worst live album I've ever heard. He then went on to become a big shot (chief editor?) on "Kerrang!". Quo never appeared on the front cover. Not once except in their own 'special' about 20 years later. Quo fans have long memories. Or we might just be a bit sad

You know, the more I watch that the more I enjoy it. Proper live! Rough, hard, rock'n'roll.

This was probably filmed on the 11th or 12th February, after their 5 night stint at the Whiskey A Go Go in LA, as the NBC studios isn't too far from there. It would also explain Ricks very hoarse sounding voice.
When they went back to the USA in March, they weren't anywhere near LA, so it was filmed 2 months in advance of being broadcast.
Rossi must've also bought himself a new scratch plate for his tele at this point, as it doesn't have the burn mark on it anymore whereas it did the month prior on their "Disco" appearance.

I also don't think it helped that tour promoters were still tagging Pictures Of Matchstick Men under the Quo name on tour poster for these American shows. Fair enough, it was a hit there but they had completely separated themselves from that image

Probably correct as by May 74 Rick had bought the White Tele as he was using it in the Wembley Footage. It still has it's original bridge at that point so he had not had it long.

Well I think this is fabulous footage and a very nice surprise as I didn't really think anything like this from the 70's regards Quo was out there somewhere. Yes Rick's vocal is rough as hell, can understand why that will frustrate, but other than that I think it's pure 1970's Status Quo, it's frantic, frenetic, raw, powerful, no nonsense yet creative in terms of the studio track/song and well held together in that a live setting. Rossi's lead was, to me, him just being his usual "70's spontaneous sporadic anything goes we are Status Quo waffle mode"!!! One reason why so many probably loved them live during that period. MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE!!!!!

God, that Wembley footage is brilliant. OK, all out of sync, but who cares about that? The visual imagery really does take me to another existence. They're not going to like it when I put that on in the nursing home

MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE!!!!! This! A million times! This to me is what Quo was all about in the 70s (I suppose, as I wasn't around until 1990 ). Bit rough round the edges, not too polished and cleaned up, just the boys as they were. And I LOVE it. Ricky doesn't sing perfectly and sounds hoarse? Who cares if I want to hear the song sung perfectly I'll listen to the album version. Francis doesn't play the solo as on the record? Fuck it, if I want to hear that I will listen to the record. I immensly enjoyed this and had a huge smile on my face the whole time through - and that's what Rock'n'Roll is all about, not perfection! Mind you, the Reunion tour was far from perfect, musically speaking, but did I enjoy these concerts more than any other I've been to before or since? Sure I did! Love the Wembley footage as well, but can't quite get my head round the Madrid thing, maybe because it's black'n'white, don't know. Much prefer this video here!

Ok, so I've been in touch with the guys running the release of these videos. They say they'll add my Quo request to the list. I know how that sounds, but it's very early days (they started on 8 March) and they only have 7430 subscribers so you never know. I've promised them thousands of hits if they put the video up so you b*stards had better watch 'em if it happens If you don't ask, you don't get! Well nearly 25000 views and counting. Hopefully the world is waking up to classic Quo!

Thank you (Just got to it). Good to hear. I hope someone rescued that frog poor old Rick has stuck in his throat At least nobody can claim he was miming! (I note with interest that he was hitting most of the notes despite his voice being in an obvious mess. It's been said Rick was built like a brick outhouse, he could never have lasted as long as he did if that wasn't true.)

So I got back to the folks at Midnight Special asking whether there was any more (i.e. unbroadcast) Quo in the archive and they tell me that all they have is the broadcast masters. They tell me that a lot of bands did additional songs which were never broadcast. So unless anyone finds the original pre-broadcast tapes, that's our lot from this source. Still, canny stuff!

Quo plays without an audience during this Midnight Special recording. A photographer is visible in front of the stage. Aerosmith also plays Dream On without an audience. Does anyone know why?
