Guitarist Alan Lancaster flew in from Australia for rehearsals which proved fraught as he was not on speaking terms with Parfitt and Rossi. They were never to see him ever again once the performance was over. He later failed in his claim to the name Status Quo. Its funny because I have heard about Alan not being on speaking terms with R&P on the day - Francis said in an old interview that he couldn't even look at Alan during their performance (and I've always thought that the body language between Francis and Alan on stage seems to show this), but I'm sure that I've heard / read an interview with Alan that said he and Francis got on really well and hung out together all day.

Based on a semi-factual back-story, but Quo come out brilliantly!

Indeed, in the backstage video they’re all sitting at the same table, Al beside Frame, having a drink.

My memories are pretty hazy but I was very excited about Quo playing. After Milton Keynes, I never thought I'd see them again. I watched their performance go out live, which was about lunch time, then I took the opportunity while Style Council were on to leave the house and walk to my girlfriend's. I had to climb the Bell's Brae (a bl00dy steep hill!) in the baking heat but I was fit then Can't remember who was on stage when I got there but we sat and watched the whole event from then on. Including the daft American bit where they introduced each act by citing sponsors or something first. I knew then that they had missed the whole point I found that quite distasteful even then. But it's one of those; everyone knows where they were when it was on. Apart from Rick and Francis

Hey mortified, I just logged on to make the same point. After I saw them 3x at Hammersmith Odeon, I too never thought I'd see them play together again. No wonder that too short set was emblazoned on my memory. That was my main feeling afterwards. I wanted more.

And then they reappeared!
Rick still sporting his Live Aid shirt, but who the hell were these new blokes?

I was working that day but got home in time to see U2, Queen and Dire Straits. I’d given up on Quo by this point and didn’t see their performance until many years later when I got the Live Aid DVD. Although Queen stole the show for me as a 16 year old it was U2 that did it for me. I do however think Quo were the perfect opening band.

I think they did 14 minutes, less than Nik Kershaw, Paul Young and most of the other bands. Queen did 21 minutes. Quo could have stuck Whatever You Want in there. I think they should have put Down Down in instead of DWMT. liveaid.free.fr/pages/liveaidtimesdetaileduk.html

I think Francis can be seen shouting to the side asking if they have time for one more.

If only Jeff Rich had been drummer at that time, they could have squeezed in a whole gigs worth of songs in that 14 mins.

First time I met and spoke to Alan , was on this day . After Quo had preformed , I came off the pitch for a drink and Alan was walking through the crowd under the seating stands ( I guess going to the helicopter ) . He seemed pretty confident they were coming back as a band , unfortunately it took 28 years .
