Howzat is that your'e on a sticky wicket if you think I can keep this up for much longer I might "run out" of things to say and the thread will be "over" without any "extras". Im guessing that’s what the other teams were saying once the Aussies rose from the ashes to become champions of T20…. even though that’s pretend cricket. Bring on the real Ashes 👍

Bring on the real Ashes 👍 I thing the Aussies will win the 5 test series 6 nil. Smith will break a batting record, most runs by an Aussie against a team with one fast bowler, 2 geriatrics and other fast mediums who are great when it's overcast at Lords but shite on a bouncy true wicket using a ball that an angle grinder couldn't damage. Fcuking Root and his overbowling of Archer. Smith v Archer at Perth was going to be a sporting highlight of the year. Fast medium is a real English thing that has never done much in Oz, we stuffed the Aussies in 2010 because of the batting, captaincy of Strauss and the bowling going after the Aussies to a specific plan with a top class spinner and superb fielding....not going to happen again.

I know how to apply 'sticky wicket'. It's been in common use as long as I can remember. But I'm not sure where the expression originally comes from. And, try as I might, I can't find anywhere on that link that tells me. I think I got lost in a forest of adverts Seems to have been first used in 1950. Why or how it doesn't seem to say. Is it a cricketing analogy? I presume so. Like, say, a wicket not falling even when it was hit by the ball was called a sticky wicket. Or something like that. Not that it matters. I was just curious.

I think the definition of 'sticky wicket' that dontthinkitmatters provided is better. As in "That eunich was a sticky wicket."
