It's all great but the part from the end of the 2nd chorus through to Rossi singing again, there is no way that they could have bettered this, they have had moments as good but there is nothing better.

Classic song, cant for the life of me understand why it wasnt played on the reunion shows. The reunion shows were noticable for the discipline of Rossi's playing. The set list from 2013 Junior's Wailing Backwater Play Video Just Take Me Is There a Better Way In My Chair Blue Eyed Lady Little Lady Most of the Time (April) Spring, Summer and Wednesdays Rain Railroad Oh Baby Forty-Five Hundred Times / Gotta Go Home Big Fat Mama Down Down Roadhouse Blues Caroline Bye Bye Johnny Plenty there that never got the treatment, bending notes going off on a tangeant that happened when he seemed to get his own way. Maybe he'd forgotten how to play ROLD with any semblance to how it was played pre 1986.

Really interesting point mate. I'm sure you are right, although I can't see it myself Think it was uwe who said Caroline was obviously a pop song. I remember being shocked about 10 years ago when somebody else made the same point. Loai aside, I see the 12GB hits as heavy or classic rock hits Clearly the band could effortlessly write hits that were rock while also pop. I've always got that the catchier hits like WYW also work as pop songs, but I'd never previously considered the melody of ROLD Does anyone remember hearing the single on the radio? Genuine hit or just fans buying it? My ears tell me the single is powerful headbagers heaven.

ROLD would be the main reason I will go and see them again (provided they do actually keep the dates next March). The way Francis messes ROLD around is a major plank in the reason I haven't been to see them for a while and don't have the DVD of BTTE. There are other things too - lack of Rick, for example - but that is the main one.
I think Francis' problem was that his guitar playing wasn't good, it was just great, and he found that difficult to live with. I have some sympathy. The world worships at the feet of shredders. There are lots of good non-shredding guitarists, but they don't tend to get the same big centrefold posters.
