I am a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to tribute bands. I have watched a few Quo tributes on YouTube, and if they haven't reproduced the song almost exactly I just can't bear to listen to it!!
If it's a pub band it's a different story. A covers band will do many different bands' songs so I wouldn't expect carbon copies.
Maybe I take it too far though.
But if you've paid for State of Quo or whatever band it is... you expect it to be near as damn it.

I tend to agree. There seem to be judging from YouTube a few bands out there who get a good guitar sound, or at least one that works. With Quo the vocals are more difficult. I think I am a bit picky, but Quo music is Quo music.

My interest would be in how I feel at the gig on the night. That's why my last "Status Quo" gig was in 1986!

What's the difference A tribute band playing Quo songs.. isn't that a covers band ?? For me, most tribute bands play the type of Quo i want to hear. Raw, heavy, unrefined, in your face rock. Varied set lists, the tracks most Quo fans want to listen to, virtually all ff material. 4500 times, 20/24 minutes worth .Often album tracks that are not often heard played live. It's more like watching/listening to proper Status Quo than proper Status Quo ( if you get my drift! ). Long may they continue !!! Next up for me Stated Quo at Macclesfield...lets rock !! ๐๐๐

The difference is that if a band is a tribute to SQ, they would have to play the songs to a much higher standard than a general pub covers band would.
It has to be pretty much note for note.
And played in the style of SQ. Not some arty farty muso saying,"This is our interpretation of Junior's Wailing".
