Thank you that is interesting, I haven't read that about Australia before though it doesn't surprise me.

I was surprised and disappointed at Colin Johnsons decision. From Paper Plane, Vertigo label, trenchcoat man with his pint (and me with my Rum and Black) to that....
So Alan was under instructions what to write. Its easy to see how and why Francis had extra conviction that pop was the way ahead.

This is a manager doing his job and a band/members not adequately standing up to it. Alan was in favour of trying to conquer the USA. He even suggested at one (late) point that the band should move its operations there. Francis was always reluctant, after the first tries, to commit to extensive touring there. With no real supporting evidence, I now wonder quite a bit if that was the core of the disagreements between Francis and Alan that led to Francis ditching the relationship. (But we know they had had disagreements before, going way back.) It's also really interesting to read how Alan says events like the TOTP Puppet were blown up in the mythology to a problem, whereas they didn't see it that way at the time.

I just realized something. First, I think most folks here know that I only discovered the band less than three years ago. In that time, Quo has become cemented in my mind as my favorite album. But I didn't realize until this interview that it was essentially Parfitt and Lancaster who put it together and wrote most of it.
Of course, this makes sense, because Lancaster was far and away the best bass player they could have had, and brought that special hard edge to the band.
