This album is a favourite to many on here. Definitely not as good as Hello! and is mainly spoiled for me by its production, which to me is too raw sounding. If produced in the way in which the previous two were, it'd be 8.5, but as it is it's a 6.5.

I have no issue with the production. It is in the shadow of the releases either side. A couple of not quite there songs for me. A solid 8/10.

From Len, a 10. For me this album is the most well balanced of all Quo albums despite its opposite reputation. I think it flows so well, and it has some stuff on it that was untypical of Quo. The whole down-and-out-and-dirty nature of the album makes it the closest Quo ever got to a concept album. And the cover. And the name. Rossi's best ever solo on the swaggering DTIM, full of Nuff's sarky vocal - Frame and Rick couldn't have sung it. Slow Train: The coolest riffs, Spud's solo - the ultra heavy ending. The utterly sublime Lonely Man with its psychedelic overtones. Drifting Away's aggression - yet ending in a totally Quo way. Break the Rules's honky tonk instrumental centre! FFF's - tumultuous arrangement - brilliant bright and poppy solo. Just Take Me's hard edged funky rhythms and pinch harmonics - Frame is really digging into those shiny new strings. Backwater... well... one of Quo's finest moments. For me this is the album that we should play very loudly to Quo mockers. I'll have what he is having...

Oh yes, this very album convinced a young colleague of mine, a real metal dude, that the Quo once were a hard rocking band, far from cheese like Tango and the likes.... He was very impressed...

A strong 10/10! Third untouchable classic in a row of five, the strongest five in a row by any band ever!

I forgot to mention, Backwater, Just Take Me and Slow Train are the only tracks I feel benefit from the production. Shit, the tone of Rossi's guitar on Backwater alone is brilliant. It sounds like a feckin' dog.
