Especially for Whoppa Choppa Quite a short journey from Nottingham, bit disappointed they aren't playing there this year but we're willing to travel to see 'em. Arrived at car park and tour busses were right behind us. A bit of a walk to pub over the road. Plenty of double denim, bar staff looked like they'd seen a ghost! Walked over to arena (bloody freezing!). Merch was nothing to shout about, theres a t shirt i liked but no dates on back. Bought a programme though. Was going to buy CD of Manchester gig but forgot in the end, a bit expensive anyway. Walked into arena, surprisingly small (very badly advertised). We had seats 5,6 & 7 on row 1 . Right in between Regg and Frame. Right in front of Wilko too. Saw Neil Gallagher (and timmy) and Steve Quohead Wood 'guarding' our seats . Met a nice bloke sat next to us who had dragged his wife along for about the 4500th time from Mansfield. Couple behind us recognised me from Minehead. Lights down and disappointingly everyone stayed sat down for Wilko. Nevertheless he was very entertaining and the bass player and drummer were good too. Don't know many of his songs but Back In The Night and Roxette were played so i was happy. Half hour break now, dragged a bit but oh well. That Rolling Stones song (what is it?) that they play before every gig came on so got me excited. Lights went down and drone starts. Thankfully everyone else was stood up by now. From the moment they started Rick was smiling and waving at me! Francis was nodding at me occasionally. Wanderer and SBYBIL were ok but would prefer something better. Rain and Little Lady (headbangers) next. Rhino noticed me and must have remembered me from Minehead. Francis was talking about how Rhino had started a game of tag earlier and it had carried on to the stage, quite amusing. Burning Bridges next, didn't think it'd work this early in the set but obviously did . Bloody knackered after though! BOTE and Proposing Medley same as usual with Big Fat Mama always being a track i like to hear live. Oriental and CUOY now, wish they'd get rid of these. Good songs but overplayed. A bit of Gerdundula now, not heard it live before so was a real treat. The drum stand worked well. ITAN was ok then drum solo was fab as usual. The usual four then a long wait for the encore. No one shouted 'QUO-o-o-o-o' which was disappointing. Paper plane first in encore. Again, didn't think it would work but it did. Juniors Wailing, Rick sung it quite well but no one can do it quite like Alan. Rick threw me a plectrum at the end of the song but it went dark just as he did so missed it! It went on the floor. RNRM was enjoyable. Just as this went into BBJ Rick threw another plectrum but i missed the bastard again! He laughed. End of gig and one very happy Charley . Got a stagehand to get plectrum. Other one was given to bloke next to me. Asked another bloke for setlist, he got it off the stage and gave it to the someone a few seats down from me, ignorant c**t . We just shouted 'THANKS!' really loud to him. Rick plectrum framed with Rhino one now. Was also great to find out just before the gig that our family friend with leukaemia was in remission . Overall a great gig but an unreactive crowd and quite strange in an arena with so few people, would have worked better at City Hall. 9.5/10. Is that detailed enough for ya Whoppa Choppa?

Thanks, CTB!! I really appreciate it! A bit difficult to read due to the omission of paragraphing, but hey... All thumbs-up here! Did they do the guitar-swappapalooza in Gerd?

Sorry about that, will remember in future. no they didn't do the swapping, don't know much about what that was to be honest.

Really enjoyed your review. And lovely details around the night. I loved the line about the bar staff thinking they'd seen a ghost at all the people in double denim. Delighted that you had such a great night out. You made me wish I'd been there.

It wasn't dreadful at all, in fact the best i've seen them since FF. Just an unresponsive crowd. I appreciate you aren't amused by the game of tag but it was just nice to see them all having fun.

I didn't say they were bad..although the tag thing blows me away... But the crowd and atmosphere sounds a bit dodgey. ..perhaps you forget ff...This didn't happen..

We carry less baggage and are less cynical when we're young. Remember how you felt at his age seeing your heroes, I'm sure he felt the same.

Yeah, I was really impressed by Motorhead in the eighties playing duck, duck, goose on stage. Awesome!
