I've just read this interview re: new album release and I loved this quote from Rick on the film Bula Quo. And then there was the Bula Quo movie. “You go as far as calling it a movie?” Rick laughs. “I’m flattered. I think it’s the second worst film I have ever seen. (It was the first until I saw Oh What a Whopper with Adam Faith). “Actually, we all thought it was quite good when we were making it, but we didn’t see the finished film until the premiere and I was a bit embarrassed when we saw it. “It’s a joke,” he says simply. So I think its safe to say that there wont be any more. link to whole article - few other nice snippets too.

Hi All, CG, Thanks for posting the article link nice little read the second paragraph made me chuckle :-
" Yes, it’s that time of year again, that time when the mighty Status Quo take their unique brand of no-nonsense rock around the country in their now traditional UK Winter Tour. "
This is the true rick I think with were his heart lies and would love to be playing like this again if only Francis would just take a leap of faith like he has with the reunion tours and tell the management to do one this is what I want and just do it!
"“I’m always tempted to say the Hello album. We just sat there and vibed. We upped the ante on that one, really cranked it up.” "And then there was the Bula Quo movie."
So what do you reckon just tows the party line or may be prepared to jump ship, line up with John and Alan before it's to late for one last proper Quo taste barring the possibility of no ore reunion gigs ?

Rick is not a leader. And he loves the life style he has. Why would he want to take leap in the dark and possibly end up playing smaller venues to smalller crowds? He recognises his limitations and stays with CQ. I would say ditto for Francis. He'd have loved a solo career with another type of music but that didn't happen either. I think you've got to respect and even admire them both for sticking out this long. I do. I may not want to watch/listen to their current music but I do think it takes stamina to last the course at the level they're at this long.

Well, there must be some issue because I doubt anyone turns up at Quo gigs to especially see Rhino, Andy or Leon. Nor do I think people would leave in droves if the Oriental was not in the set list. The classic line up could play just as big venues, if not bigger, purely by covering stuff up to 1981. So, to me, there must be an issue such as personality problems, health problems, commitment problems, logistical problems... I don't know what. But if all else were equal as in the CQ camp, I reckon FF would make more money. I think Frame explained it in that interview not so long ago, that he could imagine the same old personality issues arising if FF kept playing together. It is a real shame, but thank Quo for the music we have! He said that the personality issues were there already... What I don't get is why they don't get them sorted.... Grumpy old men..... Bah!

It is reassuring to read what his favourite album is. I wonder why they don't try to recreate that sound, just once. The modern clean production of stuff like QPQ lacks the intimate warmth of the Hello! album. Yes I liked that bit as well. Good to hear that was his favourite album! Mine too, although Quo is a close second!

Hi All, Well if their were personality issues already there why did they do the reunion tour twice ? Like I said in another post he said at the Wolves gig "This is Nuff I have missed him so much" Carl am I correct ? so in my tiny mind I makes no sense to play together if the same issues were there.. Could this be why Francis has said no more reunion or is it just another example of him blowing with wind ?

Geoff. I don't remember Frame saying that I'm afraid Geoff - what I do recall is Nuff saying something like "this is lovely; I've missed it so much". I think CQ are so tight as an act it scares Frame to play with the looser FF. Did you see the pain on Frame's face on the Aquostic gig when Rick missed a line from his verse and fluffed some other stuff? I wish he could chill and realise that Quo have always made mistakes (witness 76 live album here and there, 82 NEC Hold You Back) and who cares because it is live and still sounds great. Fast Eddie plays the wrong chord in Overkill on No Sleep - who cares. It's rock n roll. Hi All, Carl, I am sure it was Francis who said it, never mind I am listening to the gig now and I'll either post that I was right (Not very often the wife always say's ) or bow down and kiss your feet oh wise one. As for CQ you could well be right. Although I don't see why because both reunion tours were well received by both sets of fans for the most anyway like you pointed other bands must make mistakes all the time it's inevitable forgetting Chords/Rhythms/Timing/Lyrics etc.etc.
All it means that the bands we go to see are human just the same as us and accept them for what they are nobody goes to a gig expecting a perfect performance every single time they just want to hear their favourite bands play the music that made them a fan in the first place warts and all....
EDIT: Carl you were bang on Nuff is the one! "That's So lovely! I've missed it so much!" I just assumed it was the frame what a plank I am, smacks self in the face.....

Its on the dvd documentary on the Final Fling DVD that Francis mentions that there are still personality clashes between members of the band. My hunch is that both Francis and Alan want to be captain but you can only have one leader. Hence the clash. Francis was big enough to put this aside for the 2 tours. But during the 2nd tour he realised that he couldn't cope with whatever these clashes are to keep on doing it. And as the CQ are still financially viable, he doesn't need to cope with it. Hence his pronouncement that there are no more FF gigs.

Any chance they turn Bula Quo into a weekly TV series? They could have the advert breaks at every bad continuity join. Just the music videos. (Confession: Bula Bula Quo is a catchy little tune. Not Quo worthy, but a nice enough song.) What's really surprising is the Jon Lovitz is usually hilarious, the chick is hot, the location is great, the band is very likeable, so to screw that up takes real talent. Hey, does anybody know how to shrink the size of the website? All others do, but this one is about twice as large.
