If they are Quo gigs, I'll be there, if they are festivals, not a chance.

I've gone the other way. First gig after lockdown made me feel so good, made me realise how special live music is
You can have too much of a good thing. Quo in Birmingham for us both is the best part of £150. We can both goto a 3 day small rock festival for £100 and see dozens of bands. We did 2 festivals last year and will do 4 this year. Buying a campervan the best thing we've evee done.
We goto lots of things now, including pub bands. I'm less likely to goto an arena, it's become a really expensive night out whoever you goto see

Can't be bothered these days with gigs either myself... Which is a sad thing for me personally. I've seen everyone I've always wanted to see multiple times. There's no one left. And unless Freddie or Michael come back from the dead, I'm not interested. U2 in Dublin was always an experience with the crowd, especially indoors. The FF gigs had a great atmosphere and tribal thing. There's a real lack of that now and it kills it for me That's odd, coming from a young man like yourself. Sometimes I feel the same though, and I'm not inclined to pay large sums for ageing bands who I've seen in better days. But then suddenly someone like Joanne Shaw Taylor pops up and I am as enthusiastic as ever. Those evenings are the best. Ah it's a tribal thing with the bands and artists I follow. In regards Francis, Rick was the reason for me picking up a guitar, getting into music and my appearance. Still is. Out of loyalty and appreciation, I'd never go to see Francis live again. As much as I wanna hear ROLD live again. There's just no one who grabs me anymore in the mainstream. There is all across Europe and America, but they're not big enough to come here so it's not financially viable for them so I'll never get to see them. I love The Ravenottes from Denmark. Theyre playing here but its a cafe ffs. That's wrong. Should be bigger! When I'm in NY, I'm at a gig every night. The musicians are just out of this world, both technically and through feel. I saw Billy Joel in the Garden last year and will be seeing Bryan Adams in the same venue in June. Just at home here, I get so frustrated and it really hurts. Two way street I guess. Its what I deserve for getting so emotionally attached to artists like Quo, Queen, U2 etc. They felt like my friends growing up. Being a songwriter and musician myself, it also upsets me that I never made a success of myself so maybe that plays a part in it to Whatever gigs you attend, I hope you have the time of your life.

I'm just ticking things off the bucket list now with the big ones as there is little chance we will see them (at least in Oz) again. And the cost of tix is getting ridiculous! Seeing Sir Rod this week and he is another ticked off.
Theatre gigs and tribute acts are the go now - small, intimate, in some you can sit down and have a feed beforehand!
Would appreciate a small Quo tour in Australia like the previous one as we would know this time it will be the final one. It really is just about hearing the tunes live now and appreciating them. The wild, bouncing, drunken days died with Rick.

Rarely see live bands these days. Occasionally go see major acts but no to stadiums and ‘On The Greens’. Back in the 70-early 80s was out most nights of the week as the Aussie pub scene was brilliant. I first saw Quo here in ‘75, and I’ve just realised my last Quo gig was 10 years ago, to the day, back in 2013 at the Hordern Pavilion when I caught a plectrum from Rick after ROLD…🤘🏻 brilliant feeling and I knew then it was a great way to accept it was my final Quo gig. It’s now framed on the Frantic Four 2014 lithograph.

Because of the lack of concert venues in Edinburgh these days (rock venues that is; plenty up market theataaahs), if I want to see anyone I usually have to travel and stay overnight. Got fed up with that a while back. My stepdaughter is at gigs about 3 nights a week in Bristol. Tomorrow its Devin Townsend and it was The Answer the other night. Kerb Dog last week. Although, admittedly, she also goes to London for gigs. Easy to get to apparently. I sort of envy her. I certainly envy her enthusiasm which, I have assured her, will wane

Still trying to get out to gigs, but getting harder now that we have moved from Brisbane back to Christchurch New Zealand. Most of my main concert days were spent when back in Fife in the 70's & 80's Seeing Quo for the first time at Edinburgh Empire back in 73 was magical. Brisbane was kind to us with 3 Quo gigs, Alice Cooper, Bruce Springsteen (Twice) Leonard Cohen, Queen with Lambart, (not as good as queen in 72 at Playhouse Edinburgh) Phil Collins (past it tour) Bon Jovi (past it tour) Stranglers, Big Country without my besty Stuart, Smokie, Mumford & Sons, Pretenders, Fleetwood Mac (past it tour) Neil Diamond (Past it tour) Nick Lowe, Toni Childs, Byron Bay Blues Festival, Elton John (past it tour) Tony Hadley, Hugh Cornwell (Standout)
Now back in Christchurch its a bit limited to who comes, so we have just grabbed tickets for the Corrs coming in November. They have Toni Childs supporting which I last saw in the Sunshine Coast and was a magical night. Now getting to the bus pass part of life definitely more selective on where the $$$ go

Well I realised the other night why my days of arena gigs is about done. The new world has made it a not so enjoyable experience.
* On arrival immediately shoved into a cattle queue to be searched and pass through a detector. * Exiting that you are directed by a repetitive commentary announcement that really does sound like one of those sci-fi movies directing prisoners. * After waiting for the newbies who struggle to get their phone bar codes to let them in, we get through using good old paper tickets first swipe. * Next hurdle, getting past merchandise with their $80 tour t-shirts. * Let's have a drink - no full strength beer and even the spirits cans are mid-strength. No drunken frivolity allowed, even though the demographic is 50 plus years old! I buy two carefully measured (the guy held the glasses to the light so he could see the line properly) 150ml glasses of wine for the price of a bottle back home. * Toilet break - get in the long queue where I discover the hold up is caused by many guys wanting the cubicle rather than go to the urinal. * Go to our seats, which were actually top notch, floor, centre with a break in front. * First act (Jon Stevens) comes on and women in the front row who get up to dance are immediately smacked down by security despite the act protesting by stopping mid song saying let them have fun. * The entertainment is good but lacks a bit of soul - Sir Rod and Cyndi Lauper have heavily choreographed shows that are timed to the second. No impulse here. Even the woman next to me who yelled out "wooh" every time someone made a comment on stage seemed to be paid to do so. * As soon as the first mega hit in both acts commences half the people in front of me stand up at once and raise their smartphones even higher and block the floor view. And there is always one that does the whole show. * Rather than let us enjoy the vibes both acts make political statements and push them with video on stage - "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" was about abortion rights and "Rhythm of My Heart" was overlayed by Ukraine war shots. Both feel good songs almost ruined by the sombre videos on display. * Even Rod's ending is weird - finishes the set without a goodbye - comes back on after 3 mins exactly to do "Sailing" and walks off before the song ends - and the lights come on. * And then we again go through the cattle run to get out.
Those days of wandering onto the floor, carrying two or three beer,s moving around as you like, watching a band play on impulse, bouncing around and having a good time appear gone. Glad I at least experienced many nights like that though!
