There is no doubt the band became musically more proficient; and more professional on stage. But did they become more entertaining? That's all down to personal perception and expectation. I dare say the band, and Francis in particular, prefers the more polished act. You can almost guarantee it. And I can appreciate that point of view. His agenda is entirely different to that of the fan. But if there's any more of this sort of stuff hidden away somewhere, I'm well up for it!

Ricks raw vocal doesnt bother me at all, its Big Fat Mamma , not a ballad , same with Rossi's slightly dodgy solo. Lets have some more , excellent stuff.

Rossi's solos were certainly more basic in those days, very little effects or distortion. He'll have been nervous probably, debuting on US TV.

I enjoyed it too. Thanks for posting. I always loved Quo for their vibe and energy and never for musical perfection. The hot, sweaty mess and musical exuberance. I'm smiling to myself at all those who are disappointed. Do you not wonder why this was never released before? Most likely for the reasons you are upset about. Be careful what you wish for. I'm not disappointed... Just pointing out the Rick's vocals are dodgy to say the least. JC is an absolute monster. Alan is Alan. Rick is great, except for the vocals. Francis is good, just the solo is a bit odd. Nerves and all that I guess. Francis looks it

Good too see some rare Quo from the vaults 70's in excellent quality and not a playback mimed performance.

This is utterly brilliant. They are so tight. The 'bit' in the middle where they three of them play finger picked harmonies across the guitars and bass is bang on! Not a gnats fart between them. Tight as a virgin choirboy's whatsname. And this is the best footage of Spud full stop. Brilliant!!!! "Tight as a virgin choirboy's whatsname." Not in the catholic church it ain't!

I'm kinda curious to hear people's opinions on Francis' solo...
Granted, it's not great playing, but that was his sound. It's his sound on the Live album. He never used effects until the late 70s. Only a volume pedal for solos. That's how a Telecaster sounds. It's mostly used for country music (Insert Francis and country joke here)
What was different at the gigs back then that you heard from him, that's different to the sound you hear on that clip? Genuine question!
His sound around 1981 onwards is vastly different

Jimmy used 2 or 3 fuzz pedals ( not at once) when he played his Tele. Francis never did. It wasn't his thing until way later on

Another shot of whatever the other song was that they played. Hopefully they still have this, if it was taped at the time.

Well done for your perseverance Ant, you're moving mountains!! We could be about to see the first new clip of classic Quo in.... years! There's (silent) 8mm footage of Quo playing in New York, if I manage to get my hands on a copy at some point and the brief footage of the 14th February 1978 - Deutschlandhalle Berlin show that was included in a German TV film. Other than that, I'm not too sure what else exists of that era for Quo There is also some Cine Film out there from Sweden74 & 75 I think, I know someone had it on there list, I have got some Pics of it.

Right, Helmet On!!
If this was Quo's "Big Chance" to break the US, you now know why it didn't happen.
Musically, absolutely loved it.
However Ricks vocals are awful, for a first time listener it would have been a major turn off. Is this what Frame alludes to when he says he didn't like Ricks shouty vocal? A bit of resentment for blowing the big chance, possibly? The your No:1, I'm No:2 stance from Rick? It all adds to the debate.
The fact that there is only one mic stand and the camera focusing on Rick during Frames solo, makes it look like he is the lead singer and guitarist. I do like Frame's solo though, he sounded so much better in those days, maybe not as proficient but definitely better.
In some of the still shots, such as the Down Down cover, there are more mic stands, so wouldn't it be great if........
I will still have to go back to the Wembley or Madrid footage to show people what Quo were really about.

.... still have to go back to the Wembley or Madrid footage to show people what Quo were really about. That's on the nail 👍 Especially the Madrid footage. Roadhouse Blues on that and I'm 17 again! Big Fat Mama wasn't a great choice. Not for what they were presumably trying to achieve. Then again, maybe they should have donned black and white face make-up and wore a lot more glitter. Maybe even higher platforms. Seemed to do the trick elsewhere
