I just heard ‘Time Was’ this morning on Planet Rock for the first time and really liked it! Possibly their ‘Is it really me/4500’?? Amazing how some bands pass you by and then you discover them years later! A friend has also recently got into them and we may go to see them. Having just read up a little bit, can any Ash fans on here recommend between the current band and Martin Turners band? I’m not sure if it would be better with the original guitarist or original vocalist? Maybe should see them both!

I've got a few recent Wishbone Ash albums but, I'll be honest, I'm not sure of the line up. If they're simply called 'Wishbone Ash' as opposed to Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash or whatever, I'd certainly try and catch them. They're excellent. Time Was is going back a bit. About 50 years! Which is just a wee bit scary They're a bit less proggy these days but if you want to hear some good older stuff, try songs like Jailbait or Blowin' Free. Songs up most Quo fans' street

Not exactly the same but the riff reminds me of Ten Years After, Hear Me Calling. I think that riff was also borrowed by Quo in various recordings. I’ve heard it in the bonus (demo?) tracks on the Ma Kelly cd. I guess they all probably all borrowed licks and riffs back then.

Wishbone Ash sound very familiar to Quo. Wasn't there a discussion on here once, that i think Big Fat Mama sounded so much like one of Wishbone Ash songs?

Good band, one that me and the Mr could agree about when we first met. I recommend the first album, the fourth one is meant to be the classic. They were one of the inspirations behind the Iron Maiden sound.

Try ‘Live Dates’ and even ‘Live Dates 2’ (seriously!) Together they’re a good representation of the 2 ‘Classic’ Ash line-ups. A great band👍

I got Live Dates for Christmas once when I was still at school. I loved it. But I haven't listened to it, probably since that time. I couldn't get into Argus for some reason, which is the album that sort of defined them back then and is probably their best known work. But Mrs Flittersnoop is right. My recollection (never very trustworthy ) is that Wishbone Four was quite critically acclaimed at the time. I only ever saw them the once, in 1976. By which time, the peak of their popularity had been and gone. Certainly in the UK. Although I think they supported Quo at some of those forest gigs. Maybe about 15 years ago? Here's a more recent track that I've stuck up here before and it's a belter. Dual guitar solos in the latter half to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. It's from a 2014 album called Blue Horizons. And its a feast for the ears

Will get the best of cd instead.

Yes, I have always felt the beginning of Blowin' Free sounded like the start to Hold You Back. And there's me thinking I was alone with this thought!
