Status Quo released Paper Plane today (10th November 1972) from the forthcoming album Piledriver their first release on the vertigo label. I remember first hearing this track on Rosko's Roundtable on a Friday evening on Radio 1, where the host and 3 other guests including a favourite of the time Marc Bolan were reviewing the new releases. As I had seen the band earlier in the year at Harlow Playhouse my ears pricked up when it was announced ....."here is the new single from Status Quo"... It may be 50 years old, but that no nonsense in ya face intro, still gets me.

Ah, Emperor Rosko. There's a blast from the past I can't remember when I first heard the single. It will have been on Radio 1, I'm sure, because my mum always had it on first thing in the morning when we were getting ready for skool. But first time I listened properly was when they pitched up on "Top of the Pops" and my mum shouted me through saying "that group you like are on". I was well impressed and I think I bought it that weekend with my paper round money. Softer Ride simply cemented an everlasting relationship 👍 And here we are 50 years? Fvck me!

There was a video of them live at the Marquee in 1972, that I had bookmarked. But like most of my bookmarked Quo videos, it has been taken down, sadly. It was great!

This will always be in my top five Quo songs. Still bloody love it, even after 50 years!
