I thought Rossi was a 10 - 46 kind of a guy.

If using 9s these days, perhaps his hands aren't quite as robust as they once were.

Wouldn't have anything to do with his hands I dont think, just the lighter the gauge, the easier it is to bend and have vibrato. I have an SG. First two strings were a 56 and 48. The rest all were from a set of 9s. It does make life easier I guess... If Francis was using 10s, with the bridge on his old Tele, he'd have broken a lot of strings with his over bending down the years

Warning: Reader discretion is advised if not remotely interested in guitar string gauges! Mortified is probably in a semi-comatose state I tend to use 10 - 46 strings these days as a balanced feel and they stay in tune quite well for playing lead and rhythm, though use a 16 and not a 17. Though when I started out as a teenager it was always 9 - 42 as most people I knew did as well. Later on, dabbled with buying individual strings and making a set of something like 10, 12, 16, 24, 34, 44. They worked well come to think of it. No idea how Albert Lee uses something like 8- 38 gauge. Though I suppose he has a light touch. I find even a 15 way too light for everyday playing and tuning issues when pressing down just playing barre chords. Wake up Mortified!

Was surprised to read that Rick painted his tele himself, and that his blue primer can be seen in the worn parts. It looks very professionally done,in the 70's it looked new and factory produced. Nobody could accuse Francis of doing a professional job with his!

If it's true, I have never heard about Rick wielding a paintbrush before except when he and the band including Bernie and Lynton joined forces to give Rick's manor a lick of paint.

I'll post you the link if I find it again Been looking into it as I've decided to see if I make a Rick tele of my own. I dont think guitar paint was used. Normally you get arctic or Olympic white. These go yellow over time like white plastic. I think Rick must have used standard white gloss

It's the link above (painted player) that says it was blue and that rick painted it. Read somewhere else about a blue primer
I guess it could just as easily mean that Rick had it painted. It was done very well whoever did it

Just noticed the blue on the original post to eBay Not noticed it on any photos of the real thing , it looks more like black coming through
