It's a question I've often asked myself. The first Quo song I ever heard was 'Break the Rules' in '74 and that insistent chug a chug of its shuffle drew me instantly to what became my favourite musical groove. Though I've always enjoyed the 'drive' of the 'Little Lady' and 'Caroline', boogie style, musically my preference is probably the shuffle side of Quo. What's your take?

The heads down, no nonsense, mindless boogie!
No-one can resist a bit of boogie Quo, I don't care what they say!

The whole package for me I think. I vaguely remember hearing the singles and liking the honky tonk piano of Break The Rules and the driving guitars of Mean Girl, Caroline and Down Down (that really hooked me) but finally seeing them live sealed my obsession for life! I don’t think it was about one thing or another - the shuffle, the boogie, the heaviness, the country twang or the formation dancing, it was the combination of everything!

The first thing that got me into QUO was Thirsty Work album. No boogie and a little shuffle, still got me hooked.

I was probably too young to appreciate what style of music got me into Quo other than seeing them live. But I wouldn't have gone to see them live if something about their music hadn't grabbed me in the first place. A combination, I guess. The first song I ever heard by them was Down The Dustpipe and I loved it. Then came In My Chair and I loved that even more. Both have a bluesy feel to them, one fast and one slow. I didn't know what it was then, but it turned out to be that. But after seeing them live, mere men became Gods

For me it was more the shuffle songs like break the rules. It just had that nod your head tap your feet vibe. Along with Francis voice which was important. I’m probably minority in that sometimes the 12 bar just didn’t flow so well. Example the 12 bar part in BFM just didn’t quite do it for me. Songs like that I can take or leave tbh. Another example drifting away just didn’t cut it like break the rules when they are in the zone. Each to their own though.

But I guess we're playing fast & loose with terminology

Break the Rules is a 12 bar blues too. But I guess we're playing fast & loose with terminology Neither of those are twelve bar blues Each verse of BTR is 20 bars. Just saying I've just ran through the song in my head and certainly didn't get to 20 bars, it follows the classic form pretty closely... but maybe I'm a bit dense at the moment? Edit: I definitely was. Missed a whole part of the song!

First Quo song after POMM I heard was Junior's Wailing. Live in Detroit 1975. So that would make the entire set-list the first Quo songs I heard. A virgin so to speak.
