What does "Pictures of Lily" crying mean - I don't know what he means? It was a song about wanking. Sounds to me a song about getting older and those "faded blues". May be Alan wondering about Quo's future, along the lines of "old men in boys' clothes" from Breaking Away? Maybe he's having a literal pop at Quo having to wear their denims as some sort of uniform?
Maybe he feels they'd grown up too much, got a bit serious, what with the bigger issues they were facing at the time. "Pictures of Lily" is just a funny line, maybe about the group-wanking the band used to indulge in! Not sure about the "crying" though, maybe just that he's sad that they've left their youth behind a little too much? Maybe it just fitted as a word. Sounds quite good though - it's a curious lyric and that's no bad thing.
Over thinking??
