Your own post basically answers this question. The early drafts (which I didn't have much to do with but Luke was kind enough to share with me) had all those tracks you mentioned, and so there were some serious space issues. We thought it would be more important to get the rarities out than to duplicate two songs three times (single versions, album versions, demos). So the most easily available versions got the axe. Seeing that so much was dropped, you're probably right that there would be space for them now. But as I've noticed, adding stuff is much harder than dropping it. If the two tracks had been added back, I guess it would've taken several more months to get the new versions approved. I can understand the time constraints you mention. However, as a customer, seeing only the final product, I do see a lot of space left; hence my comment. I also understand the bureaucratic process and how difficult it can be. That doesn't make me feel better about the end result though. But I understand. Yeah, I know their reissues have been odd, but they haven't been bad. And the label is doing something with them; more than just reissuing old content, plus a live set. I must admit that I don't really care that much for the live content; not as much as studio stuff. That being said, I'm still looking forward to the one released with the Heavy Traffic Deluxe, mostly due to the tracks that they played only during that era. I don't really need a 30th version of Caroline live in the 2000s+. As for Marillon's 90s reissues, yeah, the mastering by Peter Mew for the album tracks wasn't very good, but the bonus content was mastered decently (it wasn't as compressed nor as scooped in the mids and boosted on the lows and highs); it wasn't perfect, but it wasn't bad. But then, I only have a few of the 90s reissues. For instance, wouldn't have minded a remix of Heavy Traffic plus the live show. Wouldn't have minded the original mixes fetched directly from the original sources and the live show. That's all I'm saying. In the end, I'm still happy these are getting a release, even if just for the live show. I just wish it was being put out with more passion by the label.

Totally missed this news. A shame that so much was removed but these still look worthwhile. And I'm slightly embarrassed that my "Encore Medley" naming seems to have stuck. Quoincidence What happened to Live Alive Quo? Tbh, I quite like using "Encore Medley". It's better, imo, than either listing the tracks individually or whatever alternate there is. In regard to 'Live Alive Quo', I'm assuming it was either scrapped or forgotten about. Nothing has been said about it.

When all of the demos / unreleased content was first removed, it was then a case of "could we replace it?" and if we can, what do we replace it with. There was thoughts of using the full live recordings of tracks from the Rock On... and On documentary shooting, so really early live versions of tracks from the Heavy Traffic album, or a potential soundboard recording that might exist from one of the US shows from the HT tour. We didn't bother in the end, as we wouldn't have been allowed as the budget was miniscule and again having to clear the material.

Otherwise it would be the only Quo album from the ones under Universal's control that didn't get a deluxe edition, and I really liked what you had put together.

I'm guessing a deluxe of Live Alive Quo & Famous In The Last Century ain't gonna happen, shame because they could've added the Shepherd's Bush Empire gig to the Famous deluxe.
The '98 versions of Whatever You Want & Don't Waste My Time should've been added to something as well.

Funny that you should mention that, since I've been toying with the idea of buying the original CD single where these appeared... Aside from those, there's also the quartet of original songs that Mike Paxman didn't want to put on the Under the Influence reissue and that's kinda homeless now - Obstruction Day, Analyse Time, Driving to Glory and Fightining with the Pack. Also, I finally got my Heavy Traffic deluxe. For some reason, MediaMarkt couldn't fulfill my order, so I eventually cancelled it and got it from Amazon instead.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Paxman said some of those tracks weren't recorded during the Under The Influence sessions?

Why was Andy Pearce not asked to remaster these like he did with the other deluxe editions? It's a shame they are in tight digi - packs instead of digi - packs with trays, cos the discs are likely to get scraped sliding them out all the time.

Andy Pearce was busy doing remaster jobs for other artists. It's a good job that Andy Gamble has been brought on, and the guy he did these releases with, as he's a genuine Quo fan and he has been digitising Rossi's archive since the mid to late 2000s.

Does Rick actually sing "keep the album loose" or something like that in Again and Again from 2003? As at the beginning of the studio version?

Does Rick actually sing "keep the album loose" or something like that in Again and Again from 2003? As at the beginning of the studio version? he does, and tbh did most of the time with that track. "Sing along, keep the album loose" It changed from time to time, as at the Sheffield show (RTYD event) he sings "let it roll" instead of sing along. The 2003 one being what he says on the album, rather than the latter
