Very.....studious!
The attention to detail here is great. You've really got the feel and groove of LL. I reckon a lot of people think playing like Quo is easy, but it's quite niche i think. You have to THINK like Quo to get that, and i think you've got the detail without getting lost in that and losing the feel of the music. Not an easy feat!
Also, the levels - ON the level! Vocals not too loud, lead guitar pitched just right, nicely balanced with the "Rick" guitar, and the Coghlan drum fills - all perfected. Also the "Rossi" guitar tone is perfect, not too overdriven, if at all. And a keyboard in MOTT - i didn't notice it until right at the end.
The MOTT guitar solo must have taken some amount of practice too?

How nice that you notice the details of the songs (the organ that sneaks into the background in the quiet second verse of MOTT). Mikael has an incredible feeling for Rossi's solo and yes he has put a lot of practice into the solo. On the level is his favorite album and we have recorded several songs from the album .... You mention our eye / ear for details .... yes it's probably the closest you can get to geek level ....thanks by the way !!! |

Loved the organ too, is it real Hammond or just synth? I mix in an old Logic 9 program, so the hammondorgan is a Kontakt plugin. And it sounds amaizing, don´t it? Regarding mixing, we used a producer for the first songs we did, rockin, caroline, paperplane. But I got a mental breakdown when I could not make him understand how I wanted it to sound ... "so I better do it myself". It's been a tough learning period, and I'm still learning for every song we do. When I mix, I look for the sound that appeals to me the most..but mastering the song is the toughest part..bloody hell. Before we put out a song I probably listen to it at least 150 times in a few days, and made 150 changes and tweeks ... still when I press the upload on youtube ..."is it good eonough ? "could I´ve done something even better? ... have I missed anything ? .... and when it's out on youtube ..." I could have done this and that better ".... so....much anxiety.... |

That's the things with producers unless you're really on the same wavelength, having said that I've produced for other artists and bands for over 40 years so maybe I'm no better. As for mastering it was something I never did myself on my solo albums or when I produce for others but my last solo album was such a departure from my usual style I had it mastered three times by three separate and highly respected guys and none of them got it how I wanted so I ended up doing it myself for the first time and yeah, real tough job. You should be proud of these tracks, they're of an exceptional quality.
