... was the night I saw Status Quo for the very first time. 18th April 1982 and myself and a group of mates headed to Navan Exhibition Centre, in Co Meath, Ireland (only a few miles from the famous Slane concert site) to see my rock heroes. There was a near crush as the doors were opened at 7pm and what seemed like thousands forced there way through security and looked for the best vantage points. There was no support (that I recall) and when the boys came on stage that pent up energy was released in an ear-shattering explosion of applause, whistles and shouts. The two hours sped by as we were swept over and back like a football terrace heave after a goal scored. A magic night, and despite being partially deaf for some days afterwards, we local lads wore the tinnitus, bruises and hoarse voices as rock and roll badges of honour. I just think how lucky I am to have been at that age and to be able to witness such nights of musical passion. And... in the midst of the mayhem... I managed to take a few photos of the event, the one I'm posting here being the best of a poor lot. Great days!

Once for Quo (allegedly) and another for the Circus and I remember it being quite big but, going by that pic, they don't seem to have the full lighting rig?

Quo didn't have any support acts between 1979 and 1984, apart from the Crystal Palace and Milton Keynes gigs at the end. Generally speaking anyway. I dare say there might have been the odd gig but none that I saw. The gigs I saw on the 1+9+8+2 tour (at the Glasgow Apollo) were the end of April/start of May and I remember it snowed on the day of one of them. I must have been made of tougher meat in those days with just a biking jacket and a Quo t-shirt on my back I think many of us feel privileged, simply by an accident of birth, that we were able to witness Quo at their very peak. We tend to brag about it. And so we should If I'd seen The Beatles live, I'd have been the same. Unfortunately, that accident of birth works both ways

Nice one quodec - was there that night too, for my 2nd time seeing Quo👍
I remember sitting on the grass bank outside the doors, ages before the gig, when the tour bus with Quo in it drove past and around the back. I considered running after it but there was a BIG crowd running already so I gave up! You're right, it was a crazy hot night - a few of us were up near the front but it got dangerous crazy at times so we backed off to a safer distance and (truth be told) to try dry off a bit!! I remember that they did have the big triangle light-rig things - think they were kinda at the sides (?)
Great pic btw, in my memory (and going by where Pete's kit is) I was maybe 8 or 10 feet to your right!

100% not, believe it or not. He was still in Glenroe when this was made. When Miley was riding his missus,Imelda? Wouldn't be the only Imelda to ride an older guy, allegedly and according to said older guy... Anywho...

Yow - Glenroe!! Now my eye-twitch is back! I HATED Glenroe with a passion - mind you, I really detest all TV Soaps. So who did Navanman then, Tom or Stuart? I didn't realise Tom Dunne did impressions, he's a decent singer tho' so maybe it figures!?
As for Imelda, you lost me there!
[Btw, didn't know Mario was in Glenroe either!]

The photo is from 84, the giveaway is Rossi's hair - he only started tucking his thinning locks behind his ears on the EOTR tour.

The camera wasn't great and it was the best 'grainy' photo of a poor bunch, as I already mentioned. I agree with you though, his hair looks kinda odd. He could have been in the middle of one of his hair throwbacks, as he was wont to do on stage!!

Not to be picky or pedantic here but always like a good 'debate' ......Rossi's hair length and being tucked behind his ears is one thing but also didn't he only wear his denim waistcoat on that tour - at least all the 400 gigs I attended to he seemed to from what I recall (slight exaggeration!). Also...Rick's hair is longer and more bushy at the sides in the pic, which was the case on the 84 tour and cropped more (particularly on his fringe) on the 82 tour. I appreciate that hair actually grows during the course of a tour or can get trimmed but it does seem like an 84 pic for these reasons. My memory is probably just as blurry as most of us from 40 years ago but its worth a mention just for the hell of it. And yes, great times for all concerned no matter the hair!!!

Yes, I think the pic is from '84 too. Even Alan's hair is shorter as in '84.
