Having a rock gig at the Bridgewater is an odd choice to me, having seen Caro Emerald (Google her) there previously.
I suspect as it holds only 2,000 or so.
It was stated as sold out, but there was plenty of space in the god tier ( We were almost level with the ceiling lighting rig).
So, first Quo gig for 6 years, first without Rick, but i removed both thoughts, i was going to enjoy myself.
The audience around me, seemed very subdued. Lights down, drone on, i stood up.
Air guitar had gathered dust, but was given an airing, bash, off we went. Damn it wasnt very loud...
After about a minute or so, i got a nudge in the back, turned around and a member of the blue rinse brigade said, "can you sit down, i cant see", i politely said no and carried on.
Caroline was okay, lacked umph. Turned to my mate, we need to move, cant sit down at a rock gig, i turned to the lady behind and said, dont worry love, im moving now, she showed no emotion.
The hall is odd, as they have some wierd seating, and there was a single row to our left, overlooking downstairs and the stage, which was almost empty, so off we went.
Crowd downstairs looked like they had been lobotomised (Sorry if you were part of that audience, but thats how it looked).
Highlights - Paper Plane, Hold You Back, Softer Ride, Little Lady, Mystery Song, Roll Over Lay Down. Richie, he said MS and LL so well, i loved it, give him more. Down Down, a bit of a solo from Frame before the song, then the middle/end silient section, he played the last (Sorry i dont know the guitar technical term for it) few notes, stopped, crowd clapped, played them again, this went on 6 times.
I still like the medley, sorry.
Lowlights - Nothing after Paper Plane, why come back for 1 song, odd. Songs from Backbone, BOTE, Oriental ( Great back in 2003, tiresome now), Army, Rain ( Rhino aint a bad singer as proven on his tours on songs like Gravy Train, Jam Side DOwn) but this is horrid. Whatever You Want, shite awful intro by Richie, sorry and Andy's singing and Rockin, i know folks pay their £50 to hear this, but it sounded out of tune to me. Richie too low in the mix, Rossi, you employed him, promote him.
I enjoyed the gig, even though there is a long list of lowlights, i enjoyed Richie, missed Rick.
Would i go again, probably not, unless the setlist was changed or i got a free ticket.
If you were like me, not been since Rick's passing, go, just for the highlights above.
Finally, lots of banter from Rossi, which sometimes i couldnt hear properly, but he didnt mention Alan whilst making a bird wing flap with his arms, i hope someone recorded it.
