I was worried for the band. This board has gone quiet, there's little publicity for the tour. 700 ticket venue, would people turn up?
There were already 100 people in when we arrived at 7.30. A great crowd of around 450/500 by 8.30
I'd say the crowd was split 50/50, with half like me, hardcore fans who had a drive to get there
The rest were locals, mostly older men (not that many women present) who were fans back in the 70's. Old guy next to me went ape for all the hits and BFM. During rockers rolling he asked me what album it was from. I told him, he said "got a handful, never got that one, sounds effin great".
This was a band that knew its audience and John's limitations. The 125 minute set was as brilliant as it could be
Not seen JC Quo for 5 years, different line up then. John stomped off that night in a hissy fit due to crap sound and terrible attendance
This band much better
Rick Chase is an extremely likeable frontman, and does a decent job of singing Rick and Alan's stuff. Straight from the off, Juniors hit me with the thud of the heavy old Quo sound. Very authentic and far more enjoyable for me than "lite"
Slightly surprised to get SYBIL as 2nd song in, then again it must have been one of the last hits John appeared on. Vocals aside, I've never heard it sound so good
John was in good humour throughout. Spoke touchingly about Rick and Alan. The other original member was referred to by his surname. "we get on really well, a phone call every 5 years or so"
Highlights? I wasn't the only fan with a watery eye during A Year. It was magical
I saw the light was fantastic
Lakky lady, spinning Wheel excellent
What grabbed me was In My Chair. The drums were a proper shuffle, it gave the song a wholly different feel to the versions "lite" did. I've never heard it so good. My wife thought similar about gerdanula
Paper Plane, not one I'm that fond of, blew me away. Now I get it. It was far better than the way I've been hearing it since 86,far better
The other drummer (who played all the difficult songs) also played harmonica. He was extremely good. He tried to end BFM too soon but was otherwise flawless
I really hope this band can find a way to continue without John
Today I have the afterglow and ear buzzing that comes after a great gig
Of course singed with some sadness. Of course John is right to stop, but fantastic to see him again. Don't want to sound down, but it's hard to see how I will experience a Quo night as special as this again
Awesome night, don't miss this tour
I can confirm the band recorded the show. Here's hoping there's a live album in the pipeline
