Anyone else find it really annoying the way Rossi sings Your Love, with a pause, instead of Sweet Love??
Why does he do this??!!

He's pissed me off for years with Caroline.. A great song, a great opener and he's turned it into a shambolic comedy song.. both his singing, or more not singing, to his guitar work. 😡

So, no one noticed when he changed the melody line......better every time ( for me)

That number was always a silly little ditty, no matter how you sang it, what words and melody you used and how you played the guitar parts. It's Quo at its most naive. These days, Rossi sings it wryly, which is probably most apt for this song. It's as if the Beatles in 1970 had taken "I want to hold your hand" as a still serious part of their oeuvre. I enjoy Caroline just like I enjoy some Beach Boys numbers, but let's not pretend that it is really about something!!! It was always almost a spoof number and Francis always had second thoughts about it.
I also like it because - in its original studio version - it showcases nicely how uneven the output on Alan's Mustang was. You can hear in that song how he switches between the E and A string and how the A string is actually quite a bit more "there" than the E string - an affliction of many short scale basses such as the Mustang. Charming in its imperfection - and it always draws a smile to my face.

Naive maybe, but some of the lyrics are a bit more suggestive than "Almost But Not Quite There"...
when Francis sings in the chorus of wanting to make Caroline do a bit more than just blush, even though he's cannily attempted to disguise (but not disguise) that word by merging it into the next line.

I think this is a pretty obvious case of over-analysing what is a very simple song; a song which, to me, is genius in it's simplicity. It is THE greatest 3 or 4-minute rock single I have ever heard. Bar none. It's about having a melody and finding some words to fit. Precisely the same approach as the well documented writing of Down Down. It's about no one and it's about nothing. Of course, I'm talking about the original version here. Once keyboards were added and it became the opening song of the set, it gradually morphed into something different. The phrasing and the words changed here and there as Francis became bored with it. As he has done with many songs. This song is immortal. I won't have a word said against it

Well, at least Francis got his own lyrics mostly right and didn't sing " I should have made you (give up your vows)" instead of (as Jim Morrison wrote it) " Ashen Lady ... give up your vows" as Alan did on Roadhouse Blues! UK and US - two countries forever separated by a common language!

Quo classic. Lyrics always secondary to me, it’s the guitars hacking away & the drive of the music. That’s what made Quo.
