The Darkness have a new album, bound to be fun
Also want to listen to the new Robert Plant / krauss album
Have listened to the new Joe Bonamassa album. Couldn't get into it but he's clearly a great talent.

Interesting track listing for that Purple album, although some covered heavily in the past already by others. The video for Oh Well is great by the way I've just downloaded the new Alabama 3 album, Step 13 but haven't listened to it yet and also the new Sting album only yesterday which I have had a quick listen to and it sounds excellent. If you like Sting that is The new Korn album could be interesting but the one track I have heard sounds like it's just going to be the 90's all over again. I have no wish to repeat metal from that period. Been there, done that, discarded it Not much else out there taking my fancy but then it is the time of year for numerous bollox releases. Will Michael Bublé, Steve Perry and Westlife please leave the room

... Have listened to the new Joe Bonamassa album. Couldn't get into it but he's clearly a great talent. Pity. I have it as well and I'm constantly playing it. Not overly keen on that song where he transforms into Pink Floyd's David Gilmour (Tme Clocks); on the other hand his version of Kasjmir (Curtain Call) is beyond astonishing. And there is a lot more to savour. Give it another spin?

Loving the new Darkness album, 'Motorheart'. All of their albums I think are quality. Special mention to 'Last of Our Kind' from 2015 and 'Pinewood Smile' from 2017, chock full of memorable, irresistible stuff.
Have been playing the new one all week; superb melodies and hooks, vocally and instrumentally, as always. Justin's creative and always quotable lyricism.

I didn't give it much of a listen. Do you know which of his albums are regarded as his best? I've dipped into a few and wasn't that impressed, they were recent ones "beyond astonishing" I cannot ignore, so will give it a proper go before I get the others in the OP. Do you like the Maiden album?

I love (especially the second part of) the Maiden album. About Bonamassa: his latest album is good, but I liked Royal Tea better (the cooperation with Bernie Marsden made it a bit more British, and I like that). He also worked with Beth Hart on Black Coffee which was stunning. But his absolute best work is live: I have a live double album called Tour de Force, and that one is sublime.

I found it ok, prob never listen to it again. Just sooooooooooooooo long. You could easily cut the song intros and it would be about an hour long. The Darkness is ok as ever. They write ok songs over and over.

DP album is OK, a bit underwhelming. Mostly unimaginative choices
In one song I heard Gillan sing "Garth is back in town"
Dont know if there's a connection, in the late 80's I saw him play an unadvertised one off gig under the name Garth Rocket and the moonshines

Love the DP album [I'm severely biased tho'!] but I never liked horns/brass - still don't, so that spoils it for me slightly tbh. Btw, the video for 'Rockin' Pneumonia...' is fab too! 👍

Believe it or not, the only Joe Bonamassa stuff I've ever really listened to properly are the Black Country Communion albums. Which I do like. I've dabbled in his solo material but no more than that.
As already said, a real talent, but I'm sort of spoiled over the years by blues guitarists like Rory, Robin Trower and Stevie Ray Vaughan whose styles I prefer.
