Maybe it’s just me but I used to love this time of year as November/ December would mean Quo’s U.K. tour.
Like many, I’d take in a few gigs , take time off work, go to other cities and renew acquaintances.
It’s not been this way since 2017 as there was no winter tour in 2018 or 2019.
It was always a huge part of my year and something I really miss.
I think next year I’ll be able to do it again as despite Quo playing in March, I think they will do Glasgow and London in Nov or Dec .
Anyone else feel the same ?
It’s not just the gig itself, it’s maybe bumping into folk or having a wee break away in a different place and escaping real life for a while 😊

I feel you mate - despite for me being German it was October/November most of the time. The last "real" (meaning skipping school or taking time off work, traveling after them) autumn German tour I did was 2012...fu** me... 13 and 14 did not do it because I was bored with the set and more than happy to have seen the FF seven times and Aquostic twice. Oh and Zürich in August 2013 as an one off. In 2015 there was no annual, normal German tour, so I just went to two single concerts during the summer and in '16 I did not go because Ricky wasn't there...last time I saw them was in May, his last ever German concert. Still thinking of going once next year to properly say goodbye to my band...

I think my transition into the current lineup was made easier because I saw Richie in Edinburgh when he was helping out , before Rick sadly passed away. He did very well but by October /November /December he had really grown into the role . And possibly one of my favourite gigs , Hyde Park 2019 it felt like a unit on stage as opposed to Francis , Andy , Rhino , Leon plus Richie . The felt like a band united . I’d say go with an open mind. It can never be the same without Rick but it’s still enjoyable, especially if you have like minded people around you 😊

Yes the Winter tour was a bit of an institution wasn’t it! I understand how you must miss it. Obviously it is different without Rick but hopefully the next tour will be good, I’ve got tickets for Oxford. Hopefully Richie can sing more next time!! I agree that they seemed more of a band when I last saw them on the LS tour and hopefully they can gel together again after the long break. In the meantime, there are other Quo fixes available to meet up with fellow Quo Army supporters!

It became a bit of a routine from the 90's onwards. I didn't travel all over the place to see the band until we hit the 2000's. My credit cards took a bit of a hammering after that Do I miss it? If I'm honest, probably not. It's always good to see the band but the travelling was becoming a bit of a ball ache, especially the flying. So we began to tail off from all that around 2012, choosing our gigs to suit our budget and the ease of getting there. I dare say age plays a part. But then I always say that. About pretty much everything Put it this way, I'm quite glad those 40-date tours are a thing of the past. The choices are much easier now

The Xmas gigs were never really a thing for me. I think the last ones I did were Wembley Arena 2009, then I think Glasgow 2014. Was at the front under Ricky which was cool. I remember the world's most tedious drum solo from Leon, and also seem to recall forgotten words during the encore.

After I first saw Quo live in ’92 then the winter tour was a definite highlight of the year and something I would look forward to. But this only lasted until 1999 and the shock of the all seated Armadillo in Glasgow. Once they started playing there, the gigs lost something for me and were no longer pencilled in the diary months in advance gig of the year that they had previously been.
From then on I went more sporadically, and then the Frantic Four gigs happened, saw them four times across those tours. After which I’ve not been inclined to go and see Quo again, just feel it wouldn’t be as good.
Obviously that means I haven’t seen Quo in many a year now, and I can’t say I really miss it. To me the band now live in their albums and live videos, which I get continued enjoyment out of.

Definitely. The break point for me really came when they stopped doing Wembley Arena (or whatever they call it now) and switched to the O2. The O2 is great (inside) but at Wembley there was a gate where the band usually stopped to do a mini meet and greet, so it was fun and sociable. (It was in those days that I also noticed quite gratefully that winter didn't normally get going in earnest till January. It was cold but we weren't up to our knees in snow.)

Think since 2008 I’ve only done the FF and the aquostic roundhouse.
It’s not really my bag anymore. I might go one last time they can’t have much left, but I’d rather see Rossi solo acoustic tbh. Happy memories though.

And almost as bad was when they went back to Hall 4 and it was seated !!!

Ah yes, the annual Winter Tours, apart from the cancelled one of 2008 (when Rick had the throat problems/operation)I didn't miss one, it was 'No business like Quo Business' as always, great memories for sure, meeting up with like minded Quo Fans etc, I'm going again next March (after not seeing the Band since December 2016, just before Rick's passing, although I gave up on Set changes years ago) it is what it is, be nice to see a few familiar faces again, I thought it was all over when I didn't bother with the 2017 Tour, but time moves on I suppose...all those great Quo memories though No other Band comes close...

It's interesting (well, it is for me ) but a couple of things in relatively recent years seemed to have an impact on my attitude going forward. The first was in 2011. Me & Mrs Mortified were in Paris for the L'Olympia gig trying, probably in vain, to repeat the fabulous 2006 experience. We met Lloyd, the guitar technician, in a bar next door and he suggested that there would be big changes to the set for the winter because they'd rehearsed all manner of different stuff. I got excited. That'll teach me So the winter tour pitches up and we decide to do (amongst others) Liverpool Echo Arena and Nottingham on consecutive nights. The set list wasn't just relatively unchanged; it was pretty much exactly the same! I came out of the Liverpool gig so disappointed, we didn't go to Nottingham. It was then that I realised that the set would change less and less as the years passed. The other time was the same year (I think) when they did that Christmas nonsense in the encore with Kim Wilde and Roy Wood. I hadn't seen so many open mouths since they inflicted Restless on us It was awful and so very obviously under-rehearsed. Roy Wood looked bemused. Since then, expectations have been tempered. I've enjoyed most of the gigs I've done since because I've gone to less. One on each tour probably. But that's been the pattern for, what, 10 years now. It's also why the Roundhouse gig was so special.
