Although not everyone’s cup of tea, possibly the Aquostic project was Quo’s biggest risk .
I’d say it really paid off and surprised a lot of people.
I remember the buzz inside the Roundhouse and hearing the eight o clock news over the pa before Radio 2 went live from the venue.
The fact it had a six month chart span shows people weren’t just buying it in the run up to Christmas etc.
Happy memories and I enjoyed it.

A truly wonderful gig. The broadcast didn't properly capture the atmosphere so I'm so glad we were there. But this belongs in the 'things you think of as new but aren't that recent' thread 7 Years?? That's just nuts!

Y'know I tried, really tried, but just couldn't get into it. HOWEVER, as with all live music, I imagine the experience & sound being there was great (I'm sure curiousgirl will confirm) - I just don't feel it transferred well to the DVD etc. I still wish they'd been more confident and stripped all the superfluous backing musicians away - singers, orchestra, bloody accordion, MARACAS! It's hard to explain, it was all so polished but just seemed to lack, I don't know, emotion? Any sense of excitement? It's like they wanted to hide their own abilities.

I was there, well remembered 4th Chord , and I enjoyed the gig. The novelty factor was fun. Yes, hearing it live made all the difference. I didn't enjoy all the acoustic versions though. I also felt like an old fan. Not in terms of age but from the tracks that drew the most interest from the crowd. I loved hearing HYB and DDMC which most of them didn't know. They got very excited and stamped their feet to the hits. I'm glad I went but never bought either CD or DVD of it. Yes, I'd hoped for a really stripped down set and was a tad disappointed by all the backup musos/singers on stage when it started. It was what it was.

I've thought that for a very long time. That appearing to not take things too seriously is almost part of the image. Either deliberate management of it or subconsciously routine. For example, they have made very few, what you might call, 'serious' videos for singles. They've nearly all tended to be a bit of a lark with only one or two exceptions. I loved the gig itself and contrary to the experience of curiousgirl, I got the impression the crowd almost sang every word to every song, especially the more obscure material like All the Reasons and Na Na Na. I thought the atmosphere throughout was magical. The place felt full of people who knew their stuff and had been with the band a long time. It didn't come over quite as well on the DVD. I haven't listened to the live album because there doesn't seem much point. But I'm still reeling at the fact it was 7 years ago!

Were you down near the front mortified ? I was up in the seats and it was a different vibes from those on the floor. Or so it looked to me.

Sort of just left of middle maybe 10 back from the stage. You can actually see my (then) stupid red and blonde spikey mohawk now and then on the DVD. But not much else thankfully I was well into my 50's!! What a fool. I grew up not long after. So I'm told Alan Crook and a girl he was with was in our little area along with a bloke whose name I didn't catch. But he was dressed like a snooker player in a black suit and bow tie and he amused me greatly. He said he'd never ventured north of Birmingham in his entire life!

It made a change to go to a Quo gig and not knowing the set list. I'm glad I went, but I enjoyed the Royal Albert Hall gig, the following year better.

I went to this one - I think it was my last Quo gig. Seemed to me to come close after the reunion gigs but maybe not. Was an enjoyable diversion but I couldn’t help thinking I wished they’d done a reunion gig there and filmed it with Bbc rather than the acoustic stuff

Morty said it above and he got it spot on...
There was zero emotion, no feeling to any of the tracks. Maybe AIBN, the rest felt too processed and phoned in.

I pondered on this for a while and declined to go. Also declined to buy the CD (either of them). Not regretting, though I think I would have had a nice time at the show. But then you gotta put your foot down now and then. I always wanted them to do an acoustic thingy, but like so much else since the early 80s, it was over-dressed despite the title. And (this isn't their fault, it seems to be how my earworm is wired up) I can spoil my own appreciation of a track by listening to a similar version with bits I like and bits I don't like. Weird I know. I really like a couple of the ballads, but a couple of ballads do not a great album make. They should have tried it with one cello and one violin and got rid of all the unhappy looking lady backing singers. Down Down was originally an acoustic song which would have sounded great, but it's lost in translation.
On top of this I find I really don't want to look at the cover ... guys you are all getting on a bit! One at a time, please! If someone had told me in the 80s I would have a pic of Francis with no clothes on and be turning it to the wall (mentally) I would have thought I was having a weird dream. How times change ... ! The second CD cover was worse.

That about sums up the Aquostic project for me. A few songs benefited from the full orchestra - POMM particularly, but others, such as "All The Reasons", it was unnecessary and more "raw" would've been perfect.
