Yeh love the song but always preferred the studio version to the live versions of this song It has been in and out of the live set since it’s conception really. I imagine it is not the easiest piece of music to play live especially for a drummer as awkward timing.

Maybe less awkward and more of a pain in the arse to do that same snare fill over and over for four minutes.

Never really got the love for this track. I mean it’s nice and all, but it’s not really held in the same esteem as their 4 big singles even though it’s their biggest seller it’s not as synonymous as say down down, Caroline, wyw etc

Love the song, its just a massive shame it never spent more time in the live set as a whole.
The Proposin' Medley, since inception, has been one of the worst Medleys they ever decided to pen together. It gave tracks like Rocker Rollin, Red Sky and Dear John a first / second outing into the live set

It gave tracks like Rocker Rollin, Red Sky and Dear John a first / second outing into the live set Being one of their 5 biggest hits chart wise it is surprising it’s presence post 84 has been limited it was brought back in the 90s for one tour then dropped again and re introduced partly in the medley from 2007 or so. As said above not sure if they found difficultly in nailing it live or wasn’t seen as definitive enough??

They could never re-create that multi-layered, jangly guitar sound, with even acoustic guitars in there too, and thus was always pretty underwhelming live IMO.

Far better on record than Live. Even when John was on drums on the NTL tour it was still fairly flat compared to all the material in the set. Great single though. Obviously one of their most successful so you can't knock it for that. Bit more poppy Quo than I normally like but they were well into their poppy growing stage by then and the guitar sound is pretty irresistible (the acoustic layer makes the song what it is). I do remember buying this on the day of release and staring in awe at that live cover shot of the band with blood streaming down Rossi's white shirt sleeve (we know the story). Now, how damn cool was that for a single cover! Probably their best I would say.

Now, how damn cool was that for a single cover! Probably their best I would say. Which sort of goes to add credence to something I put in another thread (about When You Walk In The Room). That the sleeve of a record (or CD) very often didn't accurately portray the style of music you were about to hear. So, even back then, those in control of these things were occasionally exploiting the band's previous 'rock' image/heritage to help get things off the shelf. As for the song itself, I wasn't sure when I first heard it (on day of release as well) because it was the follow-up to Living On An Island. There was definitely a lighter touch to things. The Rossi/Frost effect I guess. But it grew on me, although I agree I think it falls a wee bit flat when played live. But it was a huge hit. Kept off no.1 by (I think) Woman In Love by Barbara Streisand. Quo would have had 3 no.1's had it not been for her and Nick Berry

Mixing for most of Just Supposin' had been done at the Marquee, though with the track WYP, Rossi and John Eden decided to experiment and mix the song/single at Rossi's loft studio.
I think they were quite proud of the outcome as Rossi's studio board didn't have all the bells n' whistles available that were suddenly considered to be de rigueur at that time by the cognoscenti but they managed to get around the limitations and produced a number 2 single, almost but not quite there of being a no.1.

In the 80s NOT having the bells and whistles was probably an advantage ...

I like the song, but why is it so quiet?
