Can't go wrong with this one. Best B-side to a single in history I can just about remember listening to it for the first time. I'd bought the single coz I loved it and then I flipped it over, as you did, to see what the other side was like. I thought to myself, " wow, this lot are good!". I was blown away Of course, buying the single the day after the band 'performed' it on Top of the Pops also indicates how fvckin' old some of us are. Which doesn't blow me away In fact, it wouldn't take all that much to blow me over these days A genuine 100% classic. Frankly, one of the best things ever committed to record. No effects, no frills, just 4 guys with enormous combined talent doing what they do best - but, strangely, without probably ever appreciating it. Magnificent! And when I first heard them play it live (in the 90's) it was better than sex I didn't know it was better than sex when I first heard it, sex being a thing of the future. And probably now of the past

I remember when they played this on the 96 tour and I didn’t recognise it. Since then ive realised it’s one of their best

Timeless and brilliant. One of the rockers where the lyrics are great and add to the song

If the writing credits are anything to go by, Alan was enjoying a softer ride in 1972, wanting a ride with someone in 1977, and by 1979 was getting a hard ride.
You could argue he was being taken for a ride the whole time, culminating in 1985 when the ride came to an abrupt end.

This is one of my all time fave Quo tracks. It's right up there in the top division.
Beginning to look forward to the day when...
I ain't going to work I ain't going to work no more .
Alas not for a while.

Absolute brilliant track although I feel that it fits better on Hello then on Piledriver...on the other hand, it absolutely deserved to be on Piledriver as well

btw, the following track listing gives you almost exactly 22 minutes per side, so it would have been quite doable
Side 1
Don't Waste My Time Paper Plane All the Reasons Big Fat Mama Unspoken Words
Side 2
Softer Ride Oh Baby A Year Roadhouse Blues
give it a try, I think that sequencing works quite well & makes for a cracking album

I still find it hard to accept it was recorded before Hello! It fits like a glove and feels like it was recorded at the same time as the others My best guess is that they believed in every Piledriver song, except SR...the song became some sort of grower?
