I was recently doodling around a Beatles forum and came across this photo, the last image taken of the Fab Four on 22nd August 1969 at John Lennon's house, Tittenhurst Park: So, just wondering if we have an image of the Frantic Four just before John left? Any ideas?

Difficult to say really. The reverse of the Never Too Late album has the 4 of them but I get the impression that it's 4 individual shots put together as a sort of collage. There will be plenty live shots I imagine, which is where Quo will differ from The Beatles because they stopped performing live from about 1966. Maybe something round about the time of the Just Supposin' album? This one was in the deluxe edition although I've no idea when it was actually taken.

I think the NTL rear sleeve you refer to is a group pic taken around 78/79 with the beards, with the faces separated. It's on Google images in pretty good quality, will try and link to it later.
There's an awful lot of photos from 1981, they all look completely miserable. I think a few of them might have appeared in that Castle gatefold LP "The Collection", mid to late 80's.
The b&w pic you posted though, looks more like 1979 to me.

Both late 70s shots. 1st is a colour shot from the same sessions as the pic mortified posted, and the 2nd one is from the session that was used for the rear sleeve of the NTL album

One of the last ( if not the last) was taken in Dublin 2014.
I think they were in the lift at the venue

And speaking of a possible last Frantic Four photo before John left, does anyone know what date John actually threw down his drumsticks and walked out of the recording studio in Montreux during the 1+9+8+2 recording sessions? All I can find is a vague 'late 1981'. Anyone have any more specific details than that? Could it be early 1982? And maybe there's a photo out there of them in Montreux! Maybe!

Possibly around November '81. It's the earliest date I've seen for them being in the studio / having recorded material for the 1+9+8+2 album. Not a clue about photos of said sessions however, as studio photos of Quo seem to be very rare. I have just got my hands on a couple of shots from Montserrat

Far from the last but JC just posted this shot. Holland 1978. Frame really should have put an elastic band around those flairs.

Who were the shots aimed at? Any clues about the calibre? [or, indeed, who was the shooter?]

Thanks Cammy for the 2014 photo but now... back to 1981. A French website indicates that 1+9+8+2 was recorded in December 1981 and January 1982 at Mountain Studios, Montreux, Switzerland. Therefore that pins John's exit around September - November period, as they would have had to look for a replacement, i.e. Pete and get him in place and up to speed for the recordings. John's last appearance was in Southampton in June 1981, therefore the task is to find some images of the FF (or even FF+Andy) in the summer or early autumn of 1981. Can't be that hard, surely!!!
