There may be some debate about the exact order, but Quo's top 4 best bass players are clearly Alan Lancaster, Jim Lea, Andy Bown and John Edwards. But who is the 5th best?

If you're including Jim Lea in that list, then Lemmy - he joined them on stage in '86, but much like Jim, never played a note for Quo on the bass!
Either that, or the synthesizer they used on "Going Down Town Tonight" and a few others.
Or..... who ever played that ropey bass line on the "Wild Side Of Life" demo - Francis?

What about Roger Glover? And Francis will definitely have played SOME bass in the 1980s. And even Jeff has got a bass on in the 'Ain't Complaining' cover pic. Anyway, they're all better than Rhino

Did he actually play on any track, video or live appearance? If he just produced, then it doesn't count.

Didn’t Rick play a lot of the bass in the seventies. There have been rumours that Francis and Rick would hang around till the other two went home and redo the drums and bass. And that’s the first time I’ve ever heard of Mr. Glover actually playing the bass on wild side. Ooh you can make anything up on here. And, again...Rhino is a staggeringly good bass player, I remember him from the Judie Tzuke band, stunning stuff.

I remember an interview where they discussed playing the drums on the WSOL single. For my money it's the full band on the so-called 'demo' version but there's no way it's Spud on the single.

Roger will have done it whilst he was producing it.

Something like one day Francis and Rick left the studio with the song almost finished, then came back other day and Roger redone all the bass lines. Always thought that every band member played only his instrument, except some arrangements (like Rick playing piano on the first 70s albums)...Don't tell me that they're like Kiss. Gene Simmons is a very lazy person knowing that except on his songs, he almost didn't play on any track, bass or guitar. And every single member of the band do the same thing, even the drummers.

You can tell when Rick, Francis, Alan or John didn't play on a track. They have very unique styles or distinctive sounds. From memory, they all played on everything on the albums pre 1978. I could be wrong though. Open to correction
