Dorking theatre is a very nice theatre and auditorium. If we count all the seats was probably a little over half full but spread out looked more than that.
The first half had Francis talking about his early life and how that influenced Quo. Some of it is in the book, like his love of folk music and how that translates into the shuffle. But it’s way better to hear from the great man and see him playing examples.
He did a nice acoustic version of Spinning Wheel Blues, POMM, in my chair, etc all early in and threaded the stories together well.
He was a good story teller - I find him at times almost incoherent with barely finished sentences etc but he seems to have rehearsed how to tell a good story. It’s all very rehearsed and he peppers things with his usual humour which went down well.
Second half was weaker. Too much time talking about coronation street and post 1986. Barely anything in the 70s was mentioned.
Then we had a section on ricks passing. This was really intimate, and you genuinely got the feeling Francis cared for Rick but found him frustrating with his unwillingness to change his spots.
Q and a was a dead Loss - pony tail, how many women you slept with etc. All fake I think and rehearsed.
Overall it was a decent evening out. I think it was stronger when Francis gave a unique insight into his life - things like how do you work an audience, how do you create rise and fall and momentum in a show etc rather than the old tales. Also what’s clear is his need for an audience. When things go quiet or he loses his gist he covers up with a “what?” Or a pause and a look To the audience which gets a bit wearing - like it does at the Quo shows
Interestingly he said that on live aid before DWMT where he says “have we got time for one more…no” this was planned just so the audience would shout “yes!” And then the third number would go down better.
Worth the £30 just to get out the house though

It's over 2 years since I saw this show but it sounds pretty much the same. The show we were supposed to be going to earlier this month was finally cancelled. The questions are genuine though, because I had one read out. OK, they may be vetted (and they really have to be) but they are real. I thought it was an entertaining night. I especially liked the little acoustic interludes and I can see why there are plans for him to do this as a gig in itself. Although playing " 16 biggest hits" doesn't fill me with wild enthusiasm. Give me Spinning Wheel Blues and In My Chair all day long. How about half and half? Glad you enjoyed it though. A night out? I remember those

Its the small, mundane things that people are interested in The answer surprised me though; faggot and roast tomato

Its the small, mundane things that people are interested in The answer surprised me though; faggot and roast tomato What the fucks a faggot ? Have a read of this www.examinerlive.co.uk/whats-on/food-drink-news/stephen-jackson-savoury-ducks-yorkshire-7544235Hence this week’s recipe, which is an all-Yorkshire affair. I decided to cook something I’ve never attempted before, and something, as far as I can make out, which is indigenous to the largest county. Out came Joan Poulson’s ‘Yorkshire Cookery’, an old favourite of mine, and full of terrifically quaint old recipes from the county. Today we’re making Savoury Ducks. Nothing to do with actual duck, these little treats are anatine in name only. Essentially they’re a type of faggot.

I love em.. he also does fantastic meat balls in a savoury sauce, they're the size of cricket balls and bloody lovely. Got a feeling faggots are similar to meat balls, probably made from ofal or bulls bollox or something..🤔🥴

Incidently Ann, the Huddersfield Examiner is fairly local to me, nobody buys them any more, solely because it's a pile of shite..😉

I'm sure Francis Rossi in Dorking was involved somewhere. Who asked Francis Rossi what he thought of faggots? Are his balls big and red with a stitched seam?

Trapping a wild faggot is right up there with stalking a haggis.

I just looked it up on Wikipedia. Basically it's all the leftovers when you have eaten/salted away the family pig, minced up fine and cooked and eaten with gravy, so it looks as least like its original as possible. The good thing about it is, it isn't 100% liver.
We used to buy faggots in gravy from Tesco. They came in a metal tray rather than a plastic one, presumably to stop them escaping. Lor' even knows what Tesco put in them ...
The Mr is partly from Yorkshire, so we are allowed to eat things like this.
