I was very impressed with the refurbishment on his old yellow kit. It looks great. But my favourite is still the black kit from the 70s. Would love to know what happened to it. He still has the Ludwig sparkle kit from the 60s and the yellow kit but the black kit is missing in action? ?? I copied his setup. I got an assortment of Premier drum for Christmas one year. I painted them black and made a ride cymbal stand like his.... and of course A COWBELL 😎

I think he probably had a few black Premier kits throughout the 70s. He had a Premier endorsement deal and appeared in a few of their ads and promotional material. I'm guessing a lot of it went back to Premier after tours? or just got lost in Quo storage. Not sure how much of it he would have personally kept or had personally stored at the time he left Quo in '81? The yellow one I think was his last Quo kit? which may explain why he still has it. I would be interested to know if he has still has any more though. After he left he seemed to play the green Yamaha kit a lot which I assume was his own personal one and not linked to any Quo tours or official brand endorsement. I believe he played the snare from that kit on the reunion tours.

Me too has always wondered where that classic black set went. The mirror chrome set he used during the RAOTW and IYCSTH tours is also missing. Would be great to hear an interview when he talks about his different sets and cymbals. By the way, the colour of the Ludwig kit is not ”sparkle”, it is called ”blue (or black?) oyster”

Thanks, I didn’t know. I saw him do a gig in Leicester in 2008. He had the Ludwig kit. I was chuffed to see the kit used on Top of the Pops.
