Not given this song a thought in god knows how long
No idea why, but it came into my head yesterday
That's the thing with Francis, he creates melody that gets into your head whether you like it or not! As unremarkable & obscure as the song is, I think it must have something.

As unremarkable & obscure as the song is, I think it must have something. Well it certainly does for me. I actually like that song a lot. Melody sticks in your head, Francis' voice sounds nice (for me at least) and I can think of a whole bunch of songs that I consider to be much worse. Of course it's not quo like we are used to and would want it to sound. At the ages of what they all are I see it as a decent efford that also has a bit of charm about it and I suppose I am satisfied with that cos i don't think you can expect too much better anymore. I do believe they are capable of more. Just suppose they would sound like JCQ on their last single... of course, there are top songs, average songs, bad songs etc... but if I have to choose between Analyze Time and Sail away or Bula Quo then I know what my choice is.

I like the lyrics in this one. And I'm not really a lyrics type of person. But, yeah, the melody is quite catchy. And at least not in an irritating sort of way.
Of course, as a B-side, it was up against Obstruction Day, which is a track I've always liked. That languid sort of blues they do so well.
Put it this way, Analyse Time (and others) came at a time when we'd been inflicted with Thirsty Work and Don't Stop as the previous two albums so it had been the best part of 5 years since we'd had anything half decent. This was half decent.

It's pleasant enough, which is generally as complimentary as I get about anything they did after '81.

Never understood the love for The Madness though or Driving to Glory I think DTG was warmly received because it was heavy. Upto then nothing had been in SO long. Not a great song or one I will go back to. I loved it for 5 mins I can't not defend The Madness. Unfinished and left off Heavy Traffic as one band member didn't like it. Wish they'd mixed it properly and put it on the album Why do I love it? Rocking and powerful. Not often I do, but I love the (Hawkwindish) backing vocals. Great track!

Just sounds like a usual melody free 1/3/5 notes rhino piece. Really dislike this.

Must admit, I was always a fan of The Madness.
With the harmonies and that "na na na" bit, there were shades of The Beachboys and Kylie's very obvious big hit here and there. But it had Quo's individual stamp all over it. It drives along nicely.
At the time, this track plus the Heavy Traffic album felt like we were coming out of a long, dark tunnel.

Funny that you hear The Beach Boys and I hear Hawkwind !!
