There is a 10 page article on the making of the, Live album, in the current edition of Rock Candy Magazine (issue 26, June/July 2021). "Some people think I'm against the Old Quo, but I'm not. Some of what we did back then was terrible. I know because I was there. But there were also bits that were brilliant, and that's what I love about music - it's all about trying to find the elusive butterfly." - Francis Rossi "There's nobody that could follow Quo. I felt sorry for any band that had to support us or any band that had to go on after us - no matter how big they were." - Alan Lancaster "I'm happy that the album was left the way it was, mistakes and all. Ask any Quo fan and they'll agree. They liked it for the rawness. To have polished it up afterwards would have made it a bit cabaret." - John Coghlan "We recorded three nights, and when Rick and I listened back to the tapes it was pretty clear that the final night was the one. For some reason, though, we ended up going with the first night. We felt there was something about it. But now I'm not so sure. Some people think it's our best album. I'm sorry, but I don't agree." - Francis Rossi www.rockcandymag.com/

It was a combination of the 3 nights, not just the 1st...
Jackie Lynton's Intro and Is There A Better Way come from Night 2

Yep. 2 of the 3 have been digitised so far. They were digitised prior to the Reunion tours, so they could isolate Jackie Lynton's intro. There's an alternate stage tape, that wasn't used, with Jackie introducing the band members individually from Night 1

Surely that is a future Deluxe release - all three nights box set.

Surely that is a future Deluxe release - all three nights box set. That question was asked in the interview, and Rossi said it was a good idea and one he would look into. I've never though got the impression he is particularly into curating the back catalogue, so not sure whether he was being sincere in his answer, or giving out the answer he figured people wanted to hear, but with no intention of following up on it.

Why the hell wasn't all 3 (or just 2 if that's all there is) nights put out instead of that awful box set? Once again, Quo's legacy disrespected.

Surely that is a future Deluxe release - all three nights box set. That should be the "deluxe" edition of 2014, and not the one we finally got. At least it was included a (almost) full soundboard recording from a new show...So it was something, and much better than the Paris bootleg from the deluxe of Quo the next year.

Once again, Quo's legacy disrespected. that was more so a "quick" release thrown together as a deluxe edition. Tbh, it could be fully revisited and include the full Tokyo Quo show as those tapes still exist - as I had recently discovered the multitracks sat in the archives. They were all simply labelled as "live".

Thanks for the info, Luke. 2 things spring out: 1) the more our loyalty is abused, the fewer of us there will be and therefore the less money the record company will make (basic consumer economics - oh, hang on, we're talking about the music industry - waste of breath!) 2) on a more positive note, the Tokyo Quo tapes would need a complete remix - the mix on that album is really poor. But let's hope THAT box set could be released - and soon.

Hate to be burst the bubble... How many times have any of us or our managers said, "that's a good idea yeah, I'll look into it," as a response to an idea or thought given to us? It's just a throwaway remark to to appease people. Francis is more interested in getting it together for future shows or writing new material or relaxing, which is no bad thing and not a dig at him. Good on him. He's not going to revisit it and call up Alan or John up. The only way he'd follow through on it is if Simon Porter somehow gave him a good PR angle. Otherwise, why waste time on something only a minority of us would buy? Their target market now is different. The Hardcore fanbase, I don't feel it's as prominent anymore

Just imagine a massive box set including: * The complete, unedited London (Paris Theatre) 1973 * One complete gig from 1975 * One (or two) alternative night from Glasgow 1976 * The complete Tokyo Quo * The complete Hammersmith 1979
I’m absolutely drooling by the thought! It would be an absolute treassure to get, no matter the cost!

Rossi really does hate the old Quo doesn’t he ? I can’t think of any other artist who is so anti their own career. If he’d carried on with his idea of watered down pop music it would have sunk without trace,a bit like his later own solo career .Truly bizarre . Cheers
