Somehow a “recent” album, Quid Pro Quo is now ten years old !!
I often wonder if there was a slight split in the camp with Francis wanting to produce the songs he wrote with Bob ?
Or was it a compromise?
I was slightly disappointed with Francis and Bob’s songs .
The solo on My Old Ways breaks the momentum of the song for me. And although I quite like It’s All About You, I’m not keen on the initial verse.
On the other end of the scale, I was blown away the first time I heard Two Way Traffic.
It blasts everything else away! Brilliant.
I like Dust To Gold but not as much as everyone else seemed to.
It’s a shame it didn’t get played by Radio 2 as it was different enough to get people interested I thought .
It’s a quality track.
The campaign was a mixed bag for me.
Looking back I don’t think limiting themselves to Tesco did them any favours .
It didn’t sell as many in the first week as the previous two albums I think .
It did eventually go silver, a year later , once it was allowed to be sold via other retailers .
But on the plus side, they made the sensible decision to pick tracks to shoot as promos ( the only part of the Backbone campaign I felt was lacking)
Plus , in a very un Quo like move, they played two tracks from the album straight away in their summer set !!
There was a buzz about Quo again with a decent album of their own material hitting the top ten , good airplay and excellent live shows.

Plus , in a very un Quo like move, they played two tracks from the album straight away in their summer set !! They actually put three straight in; Two Way Traffic, Rock 'n' Roll 'n' You and Let's Rock. And they all stayed there for the winter I think. It's an album that I really liked from the first listen. Too many tracks on it probably but that's been an industry wide problem for many years. If they'd stopped after the first 11, the album would have been nigh on perfect. I agree about the Rossi/Young songs. They did come across as maybe the weakest but they were still half decent. And, I must admit, I'm one of those Dust To Gold fans. Does it seem like 10 years? Yeah, it probably does. It's realising that Heavy Traffic is nearly 20 years old that startles me!

Hi guys.
Quid Pro Quo was a super album. It was unusual inasmuch as not all band members played on every song but the product is still of high quality. It is a bit like The Beatles White album which was fragmented but works as a whole. I can't hear Rick on some Francis songs Francis doesn't feature on all the tracks either.
My favourite is Frozen Hero which is almost metal. Dust to Gold reminds me of Supertramp in some ways. Movin On is that kind of driving country rock that Francis has flares for.
Enjoy the banks being closed today.

By the way, Dust To Gold is WAY too good to be Supertramp

I despise rock n roll and you
Love TWT and Frozen Hero, really like moving on and dust to gold

I think that if "Moving On" had been plugged better it had the potential to do very well chartwise. I couldn't understand how it only got on the Radio 2 B playlist when "Better than that" made the A list. I reckon "The winner" made the A list only because the following year's Olympics were already newsworthy.

After seeing this thread, I felt compelled to go and listen to it as I've not played it in a while and I still think it's a very good album. I think cutting it to 10 tracks would've been a better idea and saving the other tracks as a bonus on the deluxe only.
This would be my tracklisting.
1. Two Way Traffic 2. Rock 'n' Roll 'n' You 3. Dust To Gold 4. Let's Rock 5. Better Than That 6. Movin' On 7. Leave A Little Light On 8. Frozen Hero 9. Reality Cheque 10.It's All About You

Saw them play Two Way Traffic, Rock n Roll And You and Let's Rock and they went down better than The Oriental and Beginning Of The End.

So it's been 10 years since my last year at high school, and it's been 10 years since my trip to Paris with the school. I remember buying online wasn't a thing in my house back then, and the album wasn't sold in Spain (or at least that I saw in the shops) so the only thing that I brought from Paris was this album (I bought it in the Virgin store inside the Louvre, by the way). It's so compressed and it's so long. If instead of 14 tracks were 10 or 12, it could be a better album...But the most problematic thing for me is the compression...Clipping all the time, I just cringe.

I guess the last real decent album. And its 10 years ago!! Jeeze. That would be like going from NTL (their last real decent album) back to DOTH!! Basically the entire height of their musical output.
I still listen to this album from time to time. I stand by my assessment that Dust to Gold is the best thing to come out of Quo Lite and TWT a close second. Real class and can't fault them for what they are, even if it isn't original Quo.
But like many have said, the album is several tracks too long (I remember Francis lamenting the same in one interview) and too compressed. The fact that Rossi's weaker efforts were released as singles is also a shame as they simply hid the other quality tracks on the album.
But yeah, at the time it was a pleasant surprise.

These references to compression I see quite a lot. I've read a few things on here about it but I'm not sure I'd recognise it. Or maybe I would. I'd just need something to compare it with I suppose. A heavily compressed album compared to one that isn't. What would I be listening for? The sound of Francis's neck being squeezed by disgruntled ex-fans?

Best album they've done since Never Too Late for me. It actually sounds like real Quo. No country crap. Its 9/10 for me I play as much as the early stuff. Dust to Gold and 2 way traffic is fantastic stuff.
I dont skip.any song on this album.
I love this record.

Excellent album. Great guitar tone immediate on the opener, 'Two Way Traffic', and on some tracks as hard rocking as they had been in the 70s.
The melodies on the pop/rock of 'Its All About You'/'Better than That' are wonderful, both songs very memorable and propulsive.
Real gold on material like 'Moving On', 'Frozen Hero', 'Dust to Gold'.
The 9 tracks below are for me the best Quo album since the early 80s:
1. Two Way Traffic 2. Rock 'n' Roll 'n' You 3. Dust To Gold 4. Let's Rock 5. Better Than That 6. Movin' On 7. Leave A Little Light On 8. Frozen Hero 9. It's All About You
