I've just spotted these! They're fabulous. So many recognisable streets. They give an impression of ancient history but these were all taken while I was growing up in the city. Which makes me ancient I suppose. Thankfully, not history yet Ta for that

I found this comment quite interesting - Calton Hill, 1964 Children in particular caught his eye as they played, finding joy often in the midst of poverty. Many of his shots evoke a seemingly more innocent and carefree world - It would be a couple of years later before I "roamed" the streets on my own, however, we played with what there was -
- An old car abanded at the sea front
- Scouring the seashore for kysies (cowries)
- Hunting for buckies (welks) to tak hame for a bil'ing (yuk, I couldna stand the smell o' them cooking)
- Using the dual use bandy nets to catch bandies (sticklebacks) and butterflies
- Climbing the rocks (yes, we knew we weren't to be there but we respected the power of the sea)
- Wandering through building sites (fenced off? - nope, we also knew we weren't meant to be there, so no sympathy for me when I fell and broke my wrist)
- Hide n seek - using all the neighbours' gardens to hide in (pelling
There weren't playgrounds, although some of us had a homemade swing.
But we never felt in the midst of poverty, we were all fed, most had some form of "pass me downs", either from an older sibling or relative

I was always west/central Edinburgh (Sighthill, Stenhouse, Corstorphine) before moving to Stockbridge and then getting my own flat in Dalry. That was long ago though. Been all over the place since then, although worked in the centre of Edinburgh my entire working life. By the way, do you think it will EVER stop raining?

Nope, never lived near the Forth - North Sea was my playground.
Only moved to Edinburgh in the 90s - I did buy a flat in Dalry mid90s, so we might of been near neighbours for a while, then move tae the sooth side (no nae Morningside - I'm neither posh or rich enough ) in 2000's. Just re-read and oddly enough when I first came doon, I lodged in Corstorphine for 7-8 months.
It's stopped raining in southside, and the 6" accidential pond, has finally managed to drain into the clay and soil.

Didnae think yer accent was Edinburgh I sold my flat in 1991 and moved to South Queensferry so we missed each other. Aye, the rained stopped yesterday lunch time and the sun came out, just in time for the rugby. Reckon it's coming back though. Maybe it'll keep the guisers away
