7th Jan, 1983. The day before, Tommy interviewed both Rick and Francis about Quo and the NEC concert - which I also have Funny how memory plays tricks. Mind you, playing his highlights from the previous year vaguely rings a bell. I do recall him saying something like it was the best rock event he'd ever attended. He'd obviously never been to an evening with Elkie Brooks Your memory is fine mate, it was originally broadcast on the following Friday. I was attending the St. Austell gig and had to get my sister to record it for me. Even purchased a Memorex tape for the occasion.

I've also got a double cassette copy of the broadcast that I've not yet had transferred. I'm hoping it's the Friday Rock Show, as I'm after a lossless copy of that. I'd love to know if the BBC still have all the broadcast reels for Tommy Vances Friday Rock Shows - I'm assuming they will, as the British Library don't have them. I think the only things that genuinely came from the BBC for the 2010 boxset release were;- Paris Theatre, 1st March 1973 Wembley Arena, 7th July 1988 Steve Wright, 30th November 1989 Sutton Park, 30th August 1992 (Definitely came from the BBC, as I also have the broadcast master copy) Brighton Centre, 12th December 1996 Ken Bruce, 9th September 2005 The rest seems to have been supplied from bootleg copies - I'm 100% sure the booklet even mentions this... I'll have to check I actually wouldn't be too surprised if a full copy of the Wembley 1988 show exists on DAT, as a full copy of the Brighton 1996 show does, besides the 2 separate broadcasts. If that particular gig comes from the BBC master. Why they switched places between Roadhouse and Caroline? That's not the original order. Why they lost time doing that thing? Butcher the Rossi's banter was a thing that make sense, because of the 2CD, 4CD and 7CD versions, so they can do whatever they wanted with the tracklists. Looking at the notes from the CD, from Forty-Five to Bye Bye, those songs are marked with a * and a note that those are off-air recordings, but nothing says about coming from a bootleg source. Of some songs from before (the 60s songs) yes, it is noted that are off-air and coming from "a listener".

The copy they used starts with Alan Freeman being introduced onto the stage, getting the crowd to sing happy Birthday / chant Status Quo and then introducing Quo. "Ladies and Gentlemen! Radio 1's celebrating 25 years - The lads are celebrating their 25th Anniversary. They have just flown in from the middle of Europe and here they are. Let's hear it for Status Quo!". There's also the fireworks that went off after the show. I've also got a copy of the vision mix audio that features a brief message from Rick to Polydor, before Quo go on stage - along with Alan Freeman talking to whoever backstage about what he's going to say when he introduces Status Quo.

roquer tbh, I could do a revised version of the Sutton Park disc, using the broadcast master and a spectrum matcher to match it up with the BBC remastered release

I'm assuming that-that will be the broadcast which fades out / fades in during the jig in Roadhouse. It would also explain why every radio broadcast contains the audio for Hold You Back from the 13th show. I'd essentially say it's a rough / early studio working before Dave Richards remixed it in Montreux

I remember the gig being played on the John Peel show on Radio one the following Friday after the gig and I recorded it on a Sony feri-chrome C120 cassette and open reel tape, with a 2 hour playing time.

Who on earth thought omitting the interviews and cutting some of the introductions off of the 60s material was a good idea? π

Still have it? or is it long gone Unfortunately, I sold the AKAI open reel tape recorder at a boot sale in the mid nineties with a few tapes, but I didn't realised the NEC '82 was one of them....a school boy error

No it wasn't, it was a Friday Rock Show special that started at 10pm, this was in place of the normal Friday Rock Show.

The off-air recordings are all the songs they played after the live TV broadcast ended but that should include Dirty Water.
