Was really impressed with the roadhouse blues cover that's in the what you listening too now thread. Would never have guessed its was Purple. Gillans voice a long way from where it was
Listening now to the iFinite album it's from, release 2017
Sounds surprisingly good. It's a long long time since I even thought about giving them a chance. Not since perfect strangers, which I loved

rwc - you've gotta hear their new album ['Whoosh!']
A real rarity for me - I bought it having only heard one track online!
It's really brilliant - love it!

I thought it was the best album of last year. Bonamassa's cooperation with Bernie Marsden on Royaltea a close second.

They're not. Whoosh is outstanding. I would recommend the 2013 Now What? album as well, it is class. Also the 1996 Purpendicular album was great. And then there were the odd songs on the ill fated 'The Battle Rages On': the title song and 'Anya' are brilliant. The rest? Up to you

Yep, listened-to and own [almost, not the 1st 3 MkI albums] all of them - I presume that's what you mean when you say 'all' ? I'd go along with Charles about 'Whoosh' and 'Purpendicular'
Like nearly every band there is a variation in quality - they're human beings after all!! Hand on heart though there's not a single DP album that I'd say 'don't get it' - there's at least something on all of them, and I don't avoid any of them [yep, not even 'Stormbringer' or 'Bananas'!] My personal favourite has for some time been 'Fireball' - mature beyond everything else they did imho, and that's saying A LOT 'cos it's between 'In Rock' and 'Machine Head', nothing if not seminal Hard-Rock albums! 'Purpendicular' is completely stunning - not a weak track on it.
I started with DP, many moons ago, with the 'Made in Japan' and 'Made in Europe' LPs - I could recommend no better places to start!
If you've not listened to DP before, I completely envy you for the treat that's lined up for your ears and brain!!

Cheers. I meant I hadn't heard anything from the late 80's onwards and was wondering if they were similar quality to the new one

It doesn't seem to be Deep Purple fans' favourite but I think Bananas is by far their best since the 70's. I absolutely love it.
Other than that, I've generally just picked at stuff since maybe the 90's, although I also rather liked Abandon. InFinite I thought was OK but not really worthy of the hype.
But there is something on virtually all of Purple's albums, from whichever era, to enjoy.

I can recommend the keyboards on Slaves And Masters. Actually Purple maintained a high quality throughout all the phases and lineups , a thing very few bands have achieved.

I really liked 'InFinite' too - it has some 'Prog' leanings so that works for me ! Can't honestly say I disliked any of the Morse-era stuff [I'm a big SM fan tho'!] but I find 'Bananas' a bit 'meh' - I'll have to try it again! **actually, just noticed in what I wrote earlier - there is one I avoid [sorry BH!] 'Slaves and Masters'. JLTs 'Deep Pop-le' Thanks but NO thanks.

gerh Deep Pople made me laugh. I suppose when an album is 4/5 of Rainbow and 1/5 of Whitesnake and Ritchie was still hit chasing you're not going to end up with Machine Head part II.

First band that really got me into rock music as a young lad. The band that made me sit up and take notice of something amazing that would pretty much dominate my entire life from that point on. I borrowed In Rock from someone. Can't remember who but it was a revelation. Child In Time in particular blew me away. I was about 12. I had the odd single that my mum bought me ( Black Night, Natural Sinner, In My Chair) but albums had been an expensive (and time consuming) mystery. Not any more. I was off and running. Next stops were Led Zeppelin III, Sabbath Vol 4, Demons And Wizards and Machine Head. Albums I still cherish to this day. Deep Purple were also one of the first bands I saw live after Quo. The fact that they still exist in some form after 50 years - both of them - is testimony to something. I just don't know what
