No big deal, if you like it.. you like it. Those 2 albums are certainly a far cry short of ‘Quo’ or ‘Powerage’ One thing I’ve no doubt about is that perhaps the 2 best rhythm guitarists for many a year arguably ever are no longer in those bands and it shows. Who did play rhythm on Pwr Up? Just out of interest. To be fair, I'd never be critical of AC/DC. They've never changed and strength to them, they've remained all the more popular because of it. I personally prefer more variety, maybe more dynamic in my music, even on one album. Certainly nowadays. Which is probably why my metal days are far behind me. Like many, I much prefer Pwr Age

Was amazed at the passionate debates between Quo and AC/DC fans when I started reading Kerrang 40 years ago
I'm sure both bands would have been in sheer disbelief if they'd been told that fans would be debating whose got the best new album 40 years later!

Power Up? Played it through a few times, typical 'DC (post Bon Scott era) same old same old tbh ( I DO like AC/DC a lot btw) but it sounds like the same track basically continually...nothing to 'grab you' whatsoever, Backbone has a few moments, but nothing outstanding either but it's ok and decidedly better but why compare Quo with AC/DC? Like a long term relationship that's just grown completely apart, and there's nothing left to really compare anymore...was there anything really after Bon's passing anyway? (Back in Black apart)

I'm never keen on using a change of personnel as an excuse for something that is probably just down to my changing tastes. Quo after John and Alan left; The Stones post Mick Taylor; AC/DC after Bon; UFO after Schenker; Even Rainbow after Dio; I dare say there are numerous other examples. All of these acts remained popular after a mainstay had gone. AC/DC actually became MORE popular. Which suggest it is, indeed, my issue

I never really got the adoration of the stones.
That said I’ve been trying to get into them more during the pandemic listening to their back catalogue. I find it very Samey.
Regarding mick Taylor though I think my favourite album is Some Girls.

I’m a big fan of the album Flick of the switch. It’s right up my street. Probably am a casual fan bit like Status Quo after Never too late. So many bands I listen to I’m a casual fan. But if I’m honest I’m in my 50s, there arent many bands I can name all the members. I’m not sure I know all the members of Status Quo. Is it Matt on drums and Richie on second guitar ? I really like BlackBerry smoke and Massive wagons, no idea who’s in the bands. The list would go on. Judas Priest no idea but they recorded their best album in decades last time.

I know its subjective, but Power Up is a far better album than Backbone. Witch`s Spell and Demon Fire alone are better than anything on Backbone.

Firepower it was called. They also released an EP a couple of years before that was even better called 5 Souls in advance of the album that year. If you haven't heard it, I'd heartily recommend. Not sure what the line up is these days because I think Glenn Tipton has been diagnosed with something that affects his playing (MS maybe?) and KK Downing was booted out, although I have no idea why. Rob Halford is back with them. And I remember their original drummer was jailed years ago for child abuse or some such. I was a big Priest fan back in the day. Till it all went a bit thrash. I never did get into that side of metal.

Rob's Christmas album was dire though.

If backbone would’ve had a production style that shifted more towards QPQ the album would have been purely amazing.
