I've been listening to Backbone and the latest AC/DC album Power Up a lot lately in my one hour drive to work and back, usually Backbone driving one way and Power Up on the other. I really think Backbone is heaps better as an overall album to Power Up. Power Up has a couple of strong tracks but Backbone is consistently good all round. Anyway, just my own personal thoughts as a lifetime Quo and Acca Dacca fan. Oh, I've just started listening to Over and Out too, I like it a lot.
Cheers!!

I've not heard anything from Power Up ( Pwr Up?) other than the single, Shot In The Dark. Which is OK and what I'd expect from AC/DC. In fact, the trouble is, it's what I've expected from them for about 40 years I loved AC/DC from about 1975 to 1980. They were probably my second favourite band at that time and I saw them live quite a lot. Then I sort of got a bit fed up. For Those About To Rock started the rot for me and I never really went back, only dipping in and out occasionally with the likes of The Razor's Edge and Stiff Upper Lip but that was it. I even dabbled with bands like Krokus, who were more or less copyists, but I thought they were doing it a little better in the early 80's even if it was very clichéd. But I appreciate I was very much in the minority - and have remained there! Backbone isn't my favourite Quo album of the last 20 years. In fact I'd probably say it was the weakest release of self-penned material during that period. But it's still pretty good. So I guess I can't compare the two albums; only my views on the two bands. I expect I'd prefer Backbone but maybe that's unfair without hearing the other one. Pwr Up could be their best since the late 70's for all I know

ACDC have never suffered a crisis of identity. You always know what you are going to get. They continue to sell millions of albums and sell out stadiums worldwide. Then you have Quo,who are merely operating on diminishing returns year after year. One more tour then please retire gracefully. BB vs PU? There is no comparison IMO Cheers

I'm frank here, I did not like ONE SINGLE TRACK I heard from Power Up. No, I was never the biggest AC/DC fan but I was honestly shocked at how bad everything sounded to me. And no, I probably haven't heard the entire thing but clearly more than half of the album. It's all the same tempo, same three chords. A far cry from something like "Touch Too Much" which has six or seven chords! Even in the more recent past they could come up with songs like "Black Ice" and "Rock and Roll Train", which still appealed to me somewhat, but no such luck here. Also, there's an age where it becomes embarrassing to sing about porn clichés and AC/DC are far beyond it. My verdict is dreadful. I think Backbone is approximately 1000x better, there is some actual songwriting here and Quo are still evolving (somewhat).

It's obvious Mark is discussing and comparing dictators: Bibi Netanyahu versus Putin? There is no clear winner: I Must Obey

Its not even their best this Century. With Mal's passing it was too much to expect anything else. Although I believe the song writing ideas were based around his riffs and demos.

Neither is particularly good. They are both alright.
I have long deleted Backbone from my music player, Powerup is still on. Although by default I think, I haven't got round to delete it.
Without revisiting, I can't remember a single song off either which to me says everything I need to say about them.

"I'm frank here" Two lesbians are having a row and one says "I'm going to be frank with you" and the other one says "Piss off, you were frank last night".

Power Up for sure not the best AC album maybe their worst.
But compared to Backbone a milestone, real loud guitars real loud drums and still the one and only AC sound. And not a Francis Rossi Band who tries to sometimes sound like quo and fail.

No big deal, if you like it.. you like it. Those 2 albums are certainly a far cry short of ‘Quo’ or ‘Powerage’ One thing I’ve no doubt about is that perhaps the 2 best rhythm guitarists for many a year are no longer in those bands and it shows.
