Is this too obscure for tastes on here ?
Was a toss up between this and Ready an' Willing ?
I will give my thoughts later...

love both. Early Whitesnake was great. Ready and Willing gets the nod for me but pretty much everything up to Saints and Sinners, some of Slide it in is golden. There is some quality after that (loved Restless Heart) but it is patchy.

An absolute classic from the perfect line up, not a single weak link musically and live they gelled amazingly. "Wine Women and Song" has always been one of my favourite Whitesnake tracks. It's a shame that the Coverdale ego was beginning to exert itself during the recording and certainly during the tour for this album, so the disintegration of the band was creeping closer. Cov was much like Francis in mentality, over time he gradually came to think that he was Whitesnake as Francis did with Quo, when both bands in their classic phase were totally a sum of their parts, once members started to drift away the quality and blues heart went with them.

Same as Sabbath's Heaven And Hell, I've only ever heard it coming from behind the door of my sister's bedroom while she was getting ready to go out I was never a huge Whitesnake fan but I did see them a couple of times ('78 and '81). They were pretty good live, especially that earlier gig which has left a more lasting impression. Sis actually went to see them at Castle Donington (Monsters of Rock) in whichever year it was. Early 80's I imagine. So the only songs I'm completely familiar with here are, for obvious reasons, Don't Break My Heart Again and Would I Lie To You. And, to be fair, I like 'em both. Bit of a golden period for the band as they rode the NWOBHM. Then America and big hair seemed to beckon. Along with big production, soft focus videos. As it did with a few to be fair.

Slightly embarrassed not to have heard it
I've got a best of the early stuff CD, about half this album is on it
Of the first 4 albums I only own lovehunter. Probably bought that for the cover 😆

Listened again, sober this time
Not quite so much fun, but still an excellent album 😊
The opening song is one of the weaker tracks, that doesn't happen often
