Just listened to this for the first time. Surprisingly not awful. In fact in the middle of the album there’s a run of 4-5 tracks I like.
Main issues I have (although my expectations were rock bottom) are Andy’s voice which seems a bit too quirky, half talking and unfocused, and some of the lyrics are overly weird.
But among all this there’s a few decent tunes - not Quo but listenable - and the guitar work is great.
I’m guessing it’s a Paxman produced album. Has that flat snare sound.
Give it an unremarkable but surprisingly better than expected 4/10

Remember a tune called tick my box, that was fun. Rubber gloves is great 😁 There's one about live aid worth a listen, I don't remember anything else Quirky but fun was how i remember the album
Remember listening to the album "come back romance", and it was awful. Had a tune called one more chance, that Quo could do. Otherwise, defo not for me!

It's an album I like. I even bought the re-issue with the different sleeve and bonus track. Andy's voice is, I suppose, like almost anyone's in their mid-60's (when it was recorded) after decades of abuse. Pretty much shot. But at least he didn't pretend and try to do anything he knew he couldn't achieve. Once you get over that, the music is excellent. Stand-outs for me are Rubber Gloves, Tick My Box and Keeping The Wolves Away. But there isn't a track I don't like. Even the slower numbers have a grumbly old country singer sitting on the porch feel to them I've just started to get hold of his old vinyl albums since lockdown. I felt there was a gaping hole in my collection. I haven't played any yet coz I don't have a turntable, but I fully intend to invest in a good one with speakers and mp3 conversion capability. If there is such a thing. I just assumed

Andy recorded the album at the State of The Ark studios. Same studios as Quo with 'Heavy Traffic' and some of 'Riffs'.
The album is earthy but quirky, for me. The tracks were allowed to breathe and uncluttered, presumably the theme behind 'Rubber Gloves'. As already said, the guitar tones and styles stand out.
Reminds me in that way of Mark Knopfler's 'Ragpicker's Dream' album. When I heard 'Good Innings', I immediately thought of Knopfler's 'Devil Baby' in its musical style/sound.
Though perhaps Andy is much less Knopfler orientated lyrically and possibly has more in common with the band Devo when he goes off into quirky land?! Joking a little there but Andy can take a very different slant than some mainstream lyric writers.

Actually been listening to this a lot and I quite like it. Fan of when the light went on, tick my box, right through to the penultimate track.
Got a million is kind of like a Thirsty Work era b side (as are lots of the tunes) but in the context of a solo album I don’t mind that at all.

I can't listen to any of his music as he's got one of the worst voices I've ever heard, I'm sure his music is probably good but with the voice, nah.

I haven't played any yet coz I don't have a turntable, but I fully intend to invest in a good one with speakers and mp3 conversion capability. If there is such a thing. I just assumed There is, but I think you'd be better off with a proper turntable and preamp. These all-built-in solutions are good if you want to save money but not "good turntables" according to all I've read. Better to digitize recordings on your computer (via cable and recording software) and have separate speakers that you can adjust or replace when necessary.
