The all Canadian Bachman-Turner Overdrive cover 'Takin' Care Of Business' didn't sound plausible on the CD sleeve but actually a highlight on a mixed bag of an album.
I imagine Rhino voted for 'Centrefold' and can only think that one of Rossi's boys may have influenced the inclusion of Costello's 'Pump It Up'. Rossi once said how he tried to strike up a convo with Costello backstage at Live Aid as one of Rossi's sons liked Costello tracks but he was snubbed by Costello.
I actually stayed with relatives of Costello for a few weeks in the 70s. They played me a very early pressing of a Costello and the Attractions track. Little did I know then that he would become very household, very soon afterwards.

"She said her name was Clack, it was time to go" I remember people playing with their Clackers was quite a common sight in the 70s. I must dust mine off... Bruised fingers was the early 70's pandemic

Love Takin' Care of Business. Bit of attitude in that track. Should have been a Quo original. Its perfect for them.
That aside, the rest is just play by numbers but at least the production is 'meaty', which kept it from being a complete embarrassment as the other two.

If this was the only covers album they did it might have been easier to accept it for what it was. But as they previously released two other covers album this was nothing I was asking for or waiting for. After all it's the best of the three.

I must have owned this at some point.
I am certainly aware of the reasons behind it. Whatever the story, it meant the band got back on a label they wanted to be on and Heavy Traffic started an up turn in their output. Whether it was the band who turned the band in the direction thyey followed pretty much since or the record label or management, isn't really important.
As for Riffs. I would have to listen to it again which to be honest I cant be arsed to do.
From what I remeber its some old Status Quo songs and some phoned in covers. On the road again was a great fit and they must have been quite an influence on Quo turning into the band that they became. The vocal particularly fitted Francis.

I don't think it's unfair to say that Centerfold is right up there with the worst things Quo have ever committed to tape.

Enjoyed it at the time, and like others say, the guitar sounds are good
The remakes are poor. Loads of plaudits for OTRA but I think the vocal range is a struggle
Nothing essential here but TCOB is good and I enjoy tobacco road, and I fought the law. I think Quo's I fought the law is the best version, Im not sure I'd say that about anything else here

Best sounding and produced of all the covers albums, possibly the only time Paxman made a decent job of producing for Quo. Bizarrely this is coupled with the worst and most ill thought out selection of songs. A couple of good ones but some utter clunkers. We didn't need yet more versions of classic Quo songs either that have appeared on every Best Of and live selection.

I remember buying this album and liked the first songs of it, but as the album get closer to the end, less interest I have in it. Centerfold for example was always skipped (never knew it was sung by Rhino, even I skipped with just the organ intro, so he has nothing to do with it...I think). But for example, I find I Fought The Law, Takin' Care Of Business and Pump It Up interesting. As for a child like me when the album was released, who was scary of scratch the vinyl records from his parents and not having Caroline on CD, the remake was something good to have, but that's it for the remakes. Maybe the last time that I played this album was like 7 years ago, when I did hear the whole discography at the time. Maybe even more time, because I didn't remember hearing Aquostic, and Rick was still alive. One thing is sure that the tour will always have a special place in my heart because, as I mentioned sometimes in this forum, the gig in Madrid in '04 is the only time that I see them live. Even the gig was an hour of greatest hits, but hey, some songs from the album were played that day .

As far as I know, and from what Rossi said in interviews at the time (whilst it was still titled "Rockin' All Over The Riffs"), they also re-recorded Down Down.
