"That" cardboard cutout was mentioned on another thread earlier today and set me wondering... whatever happened to it?
Straight in the skip? or home with a fan? or stashed deep in a props dept cupboard until 1983 then 'repurposed' in an Ultravox video?

Was there any truth in the rumour that Rick and Francis kept it until the late eighties , early nineties because they would place it on a chair in the recording studio and try and replicate their 70’s groove . However this failed and the puppet mysteriously vanished from the studio . The puppet was rediscovered , by a new homeowner , being used as a scarecrow in a posh South London garden .

I heard it was possessed and would come to life if there was a shuffle beat in earshot.

It fell out with Francis and moved to Australia. The band refused to record the Heat album in Australia and after a nasty fall out the puppet stayed in Australia. The hardcore still see him as the heart (of oak) of the band's sound. He was last seen at a barbeque in Sydney - a sad end for a valuable member of the Quo family.

They sacked him and got AL back, he never got over it. Quo asked him back for the mess of blues video, he told them to get fcked.

He did some cocaine lines with George and Bungle and has not been seen since apart from his brief appearance with Mr Blobby with its hit single

Alan sued the mannequin for not being man-nequin enough. You're right, it doesn't work!

Seriously I wondered how Alan felt when viewing that video. Was he insulted or did he shrug n laugh?

Seriously I wondered how Alan felt when viewing that video. Was he insulted or did he shrug n laugh? At the time it is said that Alan wasn't too chuffed. The story goes that he would walk out the room if that video came on the TV or whatever. To be fair to Alan it seems he was given very short notice to return to Blighty for the video as the Record Company were suddenly aware that they had a hit on their hands and wanting to maximise the exposure. He couldn't or wouldn't fly over at such short notice. Indecent exposure in Alan's mind I suspect with the resulting video! Colin Johnson's idea apparently in the circumstances and the Master Puppeteer. Must have been a funny sight with Colin and Rick driving around London/Soho with the dummy in the car. Think they were pulled over by the Local Constabulary...

I just rewatched the video on YouTube. The last time I would have seen it would have been in the early 90s on a Quo video compilation on VHS. It’s a pretty good effort from the props department. It was sturdy enough to hang a bass guitar on it. And there must have been people up above with wires attached moving it about. It’s a big puppet on strings.... good effort 🙂

Did the puppet buy a cap & become leader of the Labour Party for a while?
Or maybe have a sex change & become Prime Minister for a while?
