March 5, 2003, Hard Rock Café, Toronto, Canada. Not more than 100 people I would say. What a great gig: I was used to see Quo perform to crowds of thousands in the 70's and 80's before moving to Canada in 1984. And after having seen them again for the first time in 18 years in Croydon in November 2002, this Toronto gig felt like a private concert. This intimate club setting was just brilliant! Ticket number 1, $ 15 (Canadian dollars, not even GBP / Euro 10 - what a deal!), right in front of the stage and shaking Francis' hand as he walked off at the end of the gig.

Wow. How many did the Toronto venue hold?
The beach boys Hyde park one is always a gig I forget. That was probably half full but still around 15,000 I think from memory.

I'm not sure about the Toronto venue's capacity. Tried to find it on google and I found that it was less than 200. But the place is permanently closed, so not sure. I remember it was reasonably crowded, so probably between 100 and 200 people then.

Ah, attendances? Sorry. I am a muppet of equal proportions Edinburgh Odeon; the first night of four in May 1979. Stalls half empty. Balcony completely empty. In what was about an 1,800 seater. So there were maybe 500 or so on there. Still had a blast though

I imagine still many thousands being there though? I'm guessing poorly attended for an MoR compared to other ones? I think the official crowd was something like 45,000. Certainly down on the first Monsters of Rock with Rainbow a couple of years before. No idea about the others though. Apparently 1980 16 August Monsters of Rock 55,000 1981 22 August Monsters of Rock 65,000 1982 21 August Monsters of Rock 50,000 1983 20 August Monsters of Rock 60,000 1984 18 August Monsters of Rock 60,000 1985 17 August ZZ Monsters of Rock 80,000 1986 16 August Monsters of Rock 60,000 1987 22 August Monsters of Rock 80,000 1988 20 August Monsters of Rock 107,000

Last time. 3 years ago or so City Hall less than half full.
Singing terrible when Edwards and Bown sang.
Edwards simply cannot do Ricks vocals justice.

Whatever You Want wasn't released until the Autumn of '79. The Heat album was released '78, so they were sort of touring in support of the Just For The Record compilation by Pye that was released Spring '79

NEC , winter tour , the 0ne with Kim Wilde and Roy Wood , half empty at least , I think there was a curtain . Poor gig by status quo standards and there seemed to be an unrehearsed encore . Can understand you don’t like small theatres because the facilities backstage aren’t up to much , but if you want to only perform in arenas / stadiums it would help to sell out or as close as possible to achieve some kind of atmosphere . Small pockets of fans kind of going for it amongst the standstill / sat down brigade spoil it for me . Thank fuck the reunion tours didn’t attract too many of them and the bounce along was back . Haven’t seen status quo since the reunions what are the crowds and reaction like ?

As dennis says, matt , I think the band simply bit off more than they could chew by playing 4 nights in Edinburgh followed by 3 in Glasgow without an album or even a single to promote. A rehashed PYE compilation was never going to cut it and especially during the height of punk and new wave. It's in circumstances like these that management and promoters take things for granted. As it happens, the next night was much busier and the following two I think were sold out. The 4th night (the Saturday) certainly was and it was a cracker of a gig. Same day England beat Scotland 3-1 at Wembley. It cheered me up

I sure will, Viv, if it's on and if Canada eases up by then on the quarantine regulations and restrictions for people entering Canada, citizens included. Need to get out of the house! Any word if they're having it this year in October?

I surely hope so, I haven’t heard anything to say it won’t be but as I said in the other thread, it will depend on whether the virus is controlled... All we can do is hope...

Easy one really. Castle Donington, Monsters of Rock, 1982. Just one of those that I wish I'd never gone to. The band played poorly (easily the worst I've heard them), the rest of the bill was so-so and the bus journey there and back was nothing more than a chore. Oh, and it rained. Glasses of pi$$ mainly Nice t-shirt though Here ya go, relive that crappy day:

Interesting looking at the set list, which is the same as the one from the 1+9+8+2 tour a few months before. And without Dear John which they'd dropped by the time they got to the NEC in May. I'd actually forgotten about Hawkwind Apart from Quo, the only thing I can remember with any degree of clarity is Biff from Saxon doing his usual crowd whipping during Wheels of Steel. Oh, and a bloke from our bus getting head-butted because he pushed a guy in front who was in his way
