As usual, I disagree with the reviewer. No way is this a 6 out of 10 job. More like 3 Lower than a 3..... Yup

The best stuff on it, in my opinion, comes from Rick, Andy and Alan... The worse of it is all Francis' material... Given what we know now, I wonder... Would you have preferred future albums of material like Ol'Rag Blues, TCTTG, No Contract, You're Kind of Love? Or, would you want albums with material like Stay The Night, Win Or Lose, MT and GDTT?* *I know Francis didn't write GDTT but, he's the only one on it I would want none of it. The best bits are the gaps between the tracks, y'know, the silence. Win Or Lose was great when Lew Lewis recorded it, this version is insipid. Can't Be Done is a Never Too Late reject, in both sound and subject matter. And that's as good as it got.

The entire album.was the most piss poor shameles collection of drivel they've ever release. Drum machines, disco, pop for goodness sakes and, noooo Marge and Rita time.
I was truly embarrassed and still am. The master disc needs sealing in concrete and dropping in Atlantic, every cd, tape record needs to be collected and burned, with as many of the old Quo army dancing round the fire.
In Trafalgar Square😁😅

I was going to say that Back To Back was probably my biggest disappointment as a Quo fan. I suppose because expectations remained high. But that's not strictly true.
When I first played side 1 of If You Can't Stand The Heat, THAT was the most disappointing moment. Thankfully, side 2 was better. But up to that point, there had been no 'poor' sides of an album. Not for me. Everything changed after that.
I guess perceptions of an album are based on that level of expectation. Comparing to what came immediately before it. Which is possibly why Rock 'til You Drop is held in relatively high esteem.

When in the mood recently, have listened to 'Can't Be Done' and 'Too Close To The Ground' in the car. Not too bad really as rock-pop songs go. 'Too close..' to my ears back in '83 seemed to have more integrity to the rest somehow, bar the completely unwelcome studio-fied drums in the solo. I was a sucker for guitar arpeggio stuff with the chorus/flanger effect in songs at the time.
As Alan said, MT is a nice little pop song but too much of a culture shock for the die hards and better suited as a Rossi release. Though I suspect even Rick loved it being a huge hit as he loved having hits more than anything else really.
Still remember the first time I had heard 'Ol' Rag Blues'. Driving home from work in '83 with Radio 1 on the car radio. Possibly half listening or too much traffic noise but thinking this record is pretty good, I wonder who the band is? I can't believe that I didn't recognise it as being Quo.

Had a listen yesterday and it was surprisingly good. Remember at the time I played it to a non-Quofan and he mentioned the intros that are always promising, but the rest of the songs being too bland. I think Resurrection, Big Man and I Should Have Known fall into that category. I haven't got the time to go into the entire album, but I was amazed how good I Want the World to Know was: it's got the Wild Ones vibe, shame the entire album sounded so 80s. I agree about I Want The World To Know This was the album the band were searching for new sounds / directions. This is one song where they found one. I don't really mind the album at all. You can't be objective about something you listened to so much when you were 13 I think mess of blues has a great vibe and swagger to it. It sounds amazing played loud in a club. Ole rag blues is too clean but it's a decent enough rock pop effort. Too close to the ground is great.

As usual, I disagree with the reviewer. No way is this a 6 out of 10 job. More like 3 I will always stand in defence of Ol' Rag Blues. Ian Birch sounds like a thoroughly decent bloke you'd happily share a pint with. I remember buying this and just being deflated skimming through the tracks for the first time. Everything sounded so uninspired and stodgy. Apart from Ol' Rag Blues of course. I'm really sorry lads - but I totally disagree about '...uninspired...' Personally I was HUGELY inspired to make a nice hanging-basket holder from it - good weather proofing properties too 👍
Humming Ol' Rag Blues as I watch some lovely trailing Lobelias... well... trail [?]

Who Am I, Hold You Back and You Don't Own are good. Rocker's Rollin' and Hard Time are also decent. RAOTW, Too Far Gone, Let's Ride and Dirty Water are abysmal. For You is down there with Hound Dog and Restless. CGYM and Baby Boy are B-Sides.

Getting rid of JC wasn't an inspired move. Maybe friction breeds creativity better than it all being rosy in the garden.

It's not that it totally lacks tunyness or rhythm or the odd good lyric ... it's just not a good album. Margy is the best bit. It lacks not just inspiration, but perspiration, indignation and any sense that there is a band there. One thing, I like the chorus of Win or Lose, I pretend to sing that to myself sometimes.
