Pity you didn't have Geoff Barton's review of it in "Sounds" music paper. It was awful A lot of these reviews go down the same road. From hacks who are obviously not fans. But don't completely dislike them. Almost begrudging respect in places. But they are fascinating to read now; coming from an era where almost everyone thinks the band were at or close to their very, very best.

Not a bad review to be honest, seen far more nasty stuff.

So many of these reviews can't help including many of the clichés associated with Quo regardless, it seems, of the tone of the review itself. Whether the review is reasonably positive or outright negative, they're always set in the same context of Quo as the limited 3 chord wonders. A shocking lack of originality, other than it not being a shock!

Definitely on the down slope if not in serious decline by then. A good album but far from great.

From a purely personal point of view, this is one of my favourite Quo albums; Rock And Roll aside anyway, which I never really took to. OK, clever song and I get the irony but, like many Quo 'ballads', the melody is dreary in the extreme.
Coming And Going should have been the last best album closer they ever did.

A fairly tame review really and as railroad007 has said, there have been worse reviews of Quo albums even in the Midas touch years.
Journalists making a name for themselves and going for the comedy angle in reviews long before comedy became the new Rock N Roll.
Just for the record, JS kept the Quo flag flying and at the time I thought it was definitely the way to go, to maintain a foothold and relevance in a changing music scene.

This was my first Quo album - I was 8 and my older brother bought me it for Christmas after I’d seen WYP on TOTP. He probably wished he hadn’t as I played it to death and started a life long love of Quo.
Still a favourite album - probably like DDMC the least, but not a weak song on it for me. Love Wild Ones and Coming & Going.
Bought NTL the year after and then started buying older stuff and filled in the gaps.

Seems a reasonable review to me. Not as good as the hey day 8 or so yrs ago, lacking the energy , but still not a bad album.

Was listening to it yesterday funnily enough.
I personally really like it... I really like Lies and I think it would have worked brilliantly in the set as the second number (Opening Caroline, into Lies and then segueing into Rain) I can see why it wasn't touched though. Although it may have been performed better, in a technical sense, there is no way they could have captured the feel and vibe of it. The driving signature bass of Alan and the signature snare rolls of JC give it a uniqueness.
Vocally, it's fantastic from Rick, Francis and Alan...I just think Rock n Roll would have been better with Rick on vocals
What drives me mad is the drumming on Over The Edge...Rick, Francis and Alan are all playing a shuffle rhythm but, JC, at least to my ears, appears to be playing a straight beat and it works sooooo well!!

It’s not a bad album. I’ve just always found it pretty boring stuff though as a complete play tbh. A few great individual tracks but as an album not much to shout home about.
