I’ve always found Live a strange listen. The guitars don’t sound crisp and I agree with the reviewer the crowd is distant. It’s heavy, and energetic but I just don’t like the sound.

I wonder if part of this is age related? I've no idea how old you are but youngsters are now so used to ever sharper recordings and playback with digital technology and modern studio gizmos, that what we regarded as cutting edge in the 70s now for modern ears just doesn't hit the mark.

I’m 44. Old to some, young to others. But I’ve had Quo Live in my collection since the early 90s. I always preferred the cleaner sound of live at the NEC at the time. I know that’s probably sacrilege but.... I like non-muddy guitars- bright and crisp.
And less cowbell.
Also Alan sings like he can’t hear himself. Just over forces it the whole time.

I'll hold them off while you slip out the back If only they’d recorded it at Scarborough. The rabid crowd would have been up in your face. 👻

Bit confused. The band say they turned the audience up !
Certainly doesn't sound like a quiet crowd to me
I know what fans mean about the sound. God it's rough. I used to prefer the 82 album. Far prefer Alan's voice on the reunions to live
Live has come to serve as the proof that Quo were once a serious hard rock band. With all the slick pop and entertainment output that came later, perhaps this grew on me as some sort of antidote ?😆
Perhaps the atmosphere sounded tame at the time ?? It doesn't sound it now

It doesn't sound it now It’s a snap shot in time in terms of recording a band live and what they were at the time. It marked the end of an era where what they did on record was represented on stage. The increasing polish of the records and the more poppy direction wasn’t really reflected in their live show. You could argue it doesn’t fully even today.

A mixture of all 3 nights shows, contrary to the belief of it being the first night.
Tbh, the crowd could be a lot louder and consistent throughout the mix. As soon as songs start, the crowd noise falls dead. Listen to Little Lady. As soon as that first note hits, the crowd has gone completely from the mix.
I've seen a lot of people say they prefer the Live E.P recordings from 1975, myself being one of them.
However, the Live! gigs could truly sound even better with a modern remix and releasing all 3 nights. Get Tokyo Quo remixed as well as that's another shocking one
